Re: HEP (Healthy Eating Program) – November 2014

I am so glad I found this thread. I just got my annual physical done and it's back to eating better for me. Thanks to CherryHugs for all the info. I wish my doctor was so prepared and shared all of that with me. Grateful!

Re: HEP (Healthy Eating Program) – November 2014

Has anyone ever given up sugar and not lost weight? I have been very faithful to no sugar of any kind for over a month and I have not lost a single pound. I realize that it all comes down to calories in, but I am no longer putting sugared creamers in my tea, no chocolate, no bacon, and etc. I keep reading rah rah articles where people give up sugar and life is forever changed. This is just not my experience. Am I alone?

Hmm, that has to be frustrating. May I ask if you are replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners?

I just finished a week without any sugar at all, not even the fake stuff, and quite honestly expected some lbs to melt right off and was surprised when it didnt. During last week, I also cut back on my snacking and started exercising(just a little bit to ease myself into it) and with all that effort, only lost a few lbs, I expected at least 5. Still I will take a few but maintaining it will be the challenge. ...and I do consume a lot of sugar so, yes, I expected a lot more. Although, having said that, if you are really going to do no sugar, you definitely have to read labels. There are something like 56 names for sugar. I was amazed how much sugar is in things that I would think needed no sugar. It is in everything.

Going forward, I am not giving up sugar, however, I am going to cut back significantly and try to increase my fitness.

It is a bit frustrating. But, the good thing, I am being more mindful of what I am consuming. I just hope I stick to it.

DL2843, I just read your posts on the other sugar thread. Good luck with your challenge. It is terrible how sugar is in everything.

Thanks for the responses. I am not using artificial sweeteners or any form of sugar. It has been over 6 weeks. I always end up falling off the no sugar bandwagon because it is so hard to follow.

I cant seem to get enough of grapes lately. They have been tasting so good. I am happy about that because for awhile, I refused to buy them. They just werent tasty.

I bought a bag of apples and havent tasted them yet, so I am keeping my fingers crossed they are good. Fruit is so iffy but I have been having a little luck lately.

I hear ya! I would buy one of those big plastic containers from Costco, imagining that I'd sit with a glass of wine, a bunch of grapes, and some exotic cheese on a crisp cracker, but it never happened and the grapes were never eaten. It wasn't a total loss because I'd put them out for the birds. For some time, I was putting out a lot of grapes. The robins would wake me in the morning and demand them. I can't put out grapes anymore because I can't risk it. The dog might go out there and sample them. No grapes for dogs! (A shame, really, because I'd love to grow some.)

I'll have to pick some up if they're good this year. As for apples, I've had some very good luck. The honeycrisps have been extraordinary.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone is happy with the decisions about what to eat or not eat. I firmly believe having a pln is important. Have some treats or not but knowing how you will handle theholidays helps a lot.

I'm pretty boring at holidays. I don't eat the special dishes or desserts. It annoys some people but it keeps me happy at the end of the day.
