I am considering facial hair removal. I am not interested in shaving my face like men shave. Can you advise on methods, effectiveness and ease of use? Should I go to salon for laser treatment? Does electrolysis still exist? At home laser appliances? It seems the older I get the more hair I see on the jaw area. I use magnifying mirror to apply makeup, especially for eyebrows, and the facial hair seems more pronounced.

@Hilery   It seems laser hair removal has replaced electrolysis. many treatments are needed which can be expensive. It's because hair is not always in the same stage of growth. If it's in reesting stage, it doesn't appear on the skin yet and the laser can't "see" it.

The other downside is you can't tweeze the hairs as they come in but leave them until the next treatment. Then the laser can zap the ones that were sleeping at the last treatment. Depending on how much hair is involved and how your skin reacts to the frequency or strength of the laser, I'd guess usually 4-5 appts. spaced 3-4 weeks apart should do it. Prices vary from medi spa to derms to areas of the country.

You need or should have a free consultation first. This allows you to ask questions, give a list of meds to be sure nothing will effect the laser working well and you can ask about number of sessions, etc.

***Eyebrow hairs, as we age, are a blessing!!! Do not do any permanent hair removal in that area. Just tweeze carefully one hair at a time to maintain shape and don't go over board. You'll thank me later.

***I've never used or had experience with devices for home use. I would think they aren't as strong as professional removal and would take a lot longer to be sure all hair is gone for good.

I have one question:  How are you doing @Shanus and how's it going?  Woman Very Happy  I hope life is good!

Hello @Sooner . I'm doing well and hope you are, too. The virus is hitting hard here and all over the country making supplies difficult to obtain.  My business, has slowed a bit because makeup is less important wearing a mask...again. I'm asking for proof of vax and boosters and a negative test within the week of their appointments. This is required since even though I'm masked and gloved, they have to remove their mask (duh) and I want to be safe. I also post a negative test result each week so the client feels comfortable.

It's a crazy world out there @Sooner . Stay heaalthy and safe, too. Thanks for asking about me. đź’•

@Shanus  Earlier today I posted what I thought was just silly, lighthearted joking comment..  I see it's gone.  Sorry if you mistook it for being serious, it wasn't  meant that way.  I was joking. Big flop obviously.

Hi @Shanus - have always had an issue with powder blushes fading on me after a little while and cream blushes barely last a few minutes so don't even bother with those.

Any hints on how to stop blush from fading?  I do use a primer and foundation before blush.  Don't usually use setting spray and wondered if that would help.

Thanks!

@JudyL   Hi to you, too. Blush is always an issue. Should I use cream or powder and what shade and where do I put it? It can fade if a cream blush or powder. I like a blush in cream and powder in the same shade and set the cream blush with the same shade in powder on top. When all finished, use a setting spray on a damp sponge and press the blush into your skin...be sure not to swipe it, just press it in place.

After makeup, but BEFORE mascara or you'll have a mess, you can then spray again, if you like, with a setting mist...keeping it a foot away so you don't end up with droplettes on your face. LOL  ***I see many women spray way too close and this works in the reverse causing makeup to run or smear.

@Shanus - thank you for your suggestion re the setting spray.  Will try that the next time I put on makeup.

Re: HAVE A LITTLE TIME FOR: ASK @SHANUS

@Shanus,

What you said makes sense...I am fair and typically play up my eyes and go more neutral with my lipstick.

I'm 67 and have recently started with the dreaded lip lines even though I never smoked, but did drink from a straw for years for which I have now stopped.

Thank you for ur reply!  Smiley Wink

Re: HAVE A LITTLE TIME FOR: ASK @SHANUS

@JudyL I hope you don't mind me butting in, though I am not the expert that Shanus is.

If your blush isn't lasting it could be because your skin is oily or the product that you are using under it is too "dewey"?

Is your skin oily/normal/dry?

Are you using a very moisturizing product or products that claim to be "glowy" or dewey"?

Those things will make your blush disappear.

@Shanus

I make sure my mascara is good and dry before I spray setting spray and have never had a problem with it running or smearing.  Now, the one thing I did have a problem with (once) is making the mistake of  putting my Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray in my skincare fridge.  Shook it first but it came out in big white specks.  I look like I'd been spray painted LOL  What a mess!

@monicakm  Thanks, but it's happened before. Sometimes sentiments don't translate on forums the same way they do talking face to face.
