Stay on top of it....it has taken me years and I am still in the process of recouping from an over zealous unconscious stylist.  I said trim it 1/4"....she lopped off my hair that was well below shoulder length (all one length) that I carefully worked on for decades....down to the root 1/4".  I'm sure you will be fine because you are already on top of the possibilities.  Have fun and enjoy your "trim".

@phoenixbrd   OMG! Horror story here, too. My last cut was almost a year ago...still growing out the shorter layers I specifically stated not to put there.

Thank goodness, curly hair covers a multitude of sins, but if it's cut too short, it won't curl properly.

It's just now recovering and yes, I'll find a new stylist when it gets about an inch longer. I've been fearful of stylists since this incident and been trimming 1/4" off the bottom myself until it grew to all one length again.

@Katcat1   Hope your cut was great. Maybe you'll come back and let us know the good news.

@phoenixbrd  - Your hair was below your shoulders and you asked for a trim of 1/4 of an inch and she ended up giving you a buzz cut with hair 1/4 of an inch long?  How did that happen?

I was thinking the same thing.  Maybe the stylist heard 1/4 and thought that's how long she wanted it vs. how much cut off.  How incredibly upsetting!

@Wsmom  - Couldn't she see that she was getting buzzed and stopped her before it was buzzed off?

@San Antonio Gal, agreed.....but maybe she had her eyes down reading or something.  I mean I'm trying to think of a logical explanation...  Or hairdresser had her look down and by the time she had her look up it was cut off so much in one area she had to let her finish.  🤷🏻‍♀️.

@Wsmom   When I got my too short layers, one side was cut while I was reading. I looked up and stopped him, but by then there was nothing to do but cut the other side the same to even it out.

Sometimes stylists have personal issues and just don't listen at all to what we tell them.

@Katcat1

I almost always get a good cut but I don't let any of them touch my bangs.  Do you already have bangs that you need trimmed?

If you don't already have them, you probably need the stylist to cut them for you but there are so many styles of bangs/fringe.  If you're not already sure what to ask for I would Google for some images. My bangs are about 80% full and are longer on the sides then they are in the middle. They are cut chunky and choppy. I cut them by twisting them tightly holding them straight out and cut off the length. Then I point cut the ends. The result is choppy and uneven bangs that are longer on the sides.  You almost can't go wrong lol.  If I can get up in the morning, turn my head upside down and floof my fingers loosely through my hair and it look good, I got a good cut 🤗. And if you're getting layers cut consider a product by big sexy hair called Powder Play.  Life-changing.

How could she have cut that much off without you saying something g after the first cut? There's a huge mirror there for that reason.

That's what I asked. There's no way that could happen. You're always sitting in front of a huge mirror. You could feel after the first cut approximately how much was coming off. Not to mention looking down on the floor and seeing a chunk of hair come off. That didn't make sense to me.

You can gage it after the first cut, how much is coming off. Who is going to sit there while somebody gives them a buzz cut, coming from a bob haircut?! People would freak out after the first cut, seeing all the hair falling to the floor.

Re: Going for a Haircut Today

She trimmed everything froim a previous style cut.  Not exactly what I had in mind but I will bring a picture so she understands.  Now I could call up and say I am dissatisfied but I will deal with it until next trime in Octoer.  It's all cleaned up so that is a good thing.  I was hoping to get a cut more like Kris Jenner.
