jjbeauty - I really like Kat Von D's foundation. It offers full coverage w/o that thick, cakey look and settles into a nice, soft finish.
BTW: how did you get that font on here? Love it!

jjbeauty - welcome to the board!
At 65, I've had oily skin since I was a teenager. For me, wearing a primer under my makeup keeps the greasies away and I can go a whole day without blotting or applying powder. I tried a few primers, but the one I've stayed with for years is Mally's primer in the tube. It doesn't matter what foundation I put on over it, I do not get oily for 6-8 hours.
Liquid foundations, even water-based, make my skin more oily than compact foundation. After lots of trial and error, the Cover Girl AquaSmooth compact foundation gives the best buildable coverage, plus prevents oiliness.
Good luck!

Mineral foundations tend to work better for oily skin than cream or liquid foundations. Although, there are some liquids specifically made for oily skin which you could try. (Neutrogena comes to mind right off the top of my head.) Acne-prone skin is more difficult to deal with; I've had both for 40 years. I find the mineral 'powders' work best for me, and those with minimal ingredients even better. Bare Minerals original and philosophy have those right here on the Q. Bare Minerals covers imperfections better and I personally find philosophy to be a little more drying (although that might be better for your case). The nice thing about buying here is that you can try them out and if they don't work for any reason, you can return.
Not to mention that you can get loads of advice about them right here on the forums! Good luck, jjbeauty123, and welcome!

My favorite foundations for oily skin are Revlon ColorStay Whipped, Tarte Amazonian Clay and Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H. I've also heard really good things about Estee Lauder Double Wear for oily skin.
If shine is your main issue, you might also want to look into a good mattifying primer and finishing powder. (Milk of Magnesia makes a good mattifying primer. Read more about it here.)
I know you said that you "don't have time to go out to the shops either so would rather buy online", but honestly, I feel like that's the opposite of what you should do when buying foundation. If you buy online and don't find a good match, you'll spend twice a much time dealing with returning it and looking for colors that do match. I think that for foundations, it's worth the time to get color matched and pick up samples where you can.

I have been where you are and maybe these ideas will help.
I love the Maybelline SuperStay 24/7 Foundation and Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundations....

The Maybelline is a very good drugstore choice.
I use a primer first...my choice is BareMinerals Oil Control.
Then one of the 2 foundations I mentioned.
Lastly... I use NYX Matte Setting Spray(very much like Urban DeCay's AllNighter Setting Spray, but much cheaper) when my MU is complete. What a difference this routine has helped with my MU staying power.

Welcome, JJBeauty!
I also have oily skin, and in my 40's it is getting harder to find just the right products.
What I have landed on right now that works is either Bare Minerals Original (used with my Laura Mercier Primer), Covergirl 3 in 1 Outlast (really good for full coverage, doesn't settle in fine lines and lasts all day long), and I even really like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (when I use this it just looks sooo nice on the skin -lighter coverage-and seems to actually balance my oily skin for the day).
Good luck!

Estee Lauder Double Wear
Lancôme 24 Hr. Teint Idole
MakeUpForever Mat Velvet Plus
Revlon Colorstay (for oily skin, very similar to EL DW, and much cheaper)
All of these are VERY MATTE!! High coverage, and for oily skin.
All of the above are LIQUIDS, which can be bad news for acne-prone skin
Bare Minerals mineral foundations (original and matte) are great and never break me out. They are buildable coverage too. The original can be itchy because it has bismuth in it. The matte one does not.
I would check out a good primer too, and/or a good setting spray for oily skin. Hourglass has a mineral primer that may work. I would look for one that is silicone free for your acne-prone skin.
Best of luck!!

Very matte and high coverage:
Kat Von D Lock It
Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme
Hourglass Mineral Veil
Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte
Natural or satin matte and medium to full or buildable coverage:
Covergirl Outlast 3 in 1
Revlon Colorstay Whipped
Revlon Colorstay for Oily/Comb
MUFE Velvet Mat Plus
Rimmel Stay Matte
Garnier BB Cream for Oily skin (use this as your moisturizer, spf and primer in one; it does also have very good coverage for a BB cream; a great multi-purpose first layer)
I think you need to look into mattifying primers, setting sprays and setting powders. Rimmel Stay Matte Primer is new to the market and excellent. Boots makes a mattifying primer, too but it takes a bit of a learning curve. Urban Decay and Skindinavia have setting sprays for oily skin. Rimmel Stay Matte powder is excellent for holding oil or taking shine away mid day.

Estee Lauder Double Wear liquid foundation. I've used Bare Escentuals Matte for years, but this liquid one works better. Thanks to whomever told me about it on this board.
