Re: For those who use a foundation brush

I'm seriously considering the Beauty Blender sponge. Watched a couple of youtube demos and the reviews are awesome. Plus, I have a significant credit at Sephora I can apply.

Abrowneyedgirl ~ There's no Big Problem to having a wet brush sitting around every day. I wash every foundation brush, eye shadow brush, etc., very time I use one. The eeeeuuuwwww part would be letting the makeup sit on those brushes day after day and not washing them.

When it's time to use them again the next day, they're dry and clean. Lay them flat on a terrycloth washcloth, stand them handle-end down in a glass -- doesn't matter. They will air dry in just a few hours.

I think it's a good thing just to have on hand, even if you end up using brushes more frequently. There are times when only a BB will do!

Washing brushes everyday is not necessary. Once a week, in the summer heat twice a week maybe. You will wear out your brushes. I spend too much on brushes to wear them out like that.

Please don't do that. Water will run down inside the ferrule and eventually cause problems with the glue and you'll end up with loose brushes that break.

When I wash my brushes, I wrap in in a short strip of paper towel and then I can stand it brush end down to dry or lay or on a towel. Here's a video of how to wrap in a paper towel or, as Dusty Hunter uses, a roll of toilet paper that's not kept near the toilet.

For the record, I keep my clean brushes lying on terrycloth in a bathroom drawer. But, if water ran down into the ferrule (really?? that's what it's called? I learn something every day!) and weakened the brush, I could buy a new one. To me, the important thing is to keep them clean since they touch my face and eyes.

Re: For those who use a foundation brush

I wash all my brushes after each use, and dry them with brush guards in a cup with bristles down. Natural hair brushes also get conditioner used on them. The exceptions are my powder brush and blush brush, I wash those weekly. I've never had a brush not be dry by the next day using this method. I don't want the goop on foundation and concealer brushes and I don't want color on eye brushes. It takes me maybe one minute to do this after putting on make up. I have back-up foundation, concealer and eye brushes if for some reason I am unable to wash right away, but that maybe happens once a year, and if I wash them by evening they are dry by morning. I don't like spray brush cleaner (too much alcohol) and I don't like make up wipes, they are ok for eye brushes, but since I am going to wash foundation and concealer brushes, I don't bother with wipes and wash them all.

I've had many of my brushes for years, I don't think washing them hurts them as long as you keep the ferrules relatively dry and aren't too rough with them.

Re: For those who use a foundation brush

I alternate my brushes but after each use I run the back and forth across a wet wash cloth or towel. I wash all of them about every two weeks. My eyeliner brushes get cleaned after being used. I use JM oil, baby oil or the Sephora spray cleaner. I like the oil best though because it conditions the brush. I alternate sponges as well but clean them all at the same time. They are a bigger pain to clean.

Re: For those who use a foundation brush

I wash once a week. But, there's a great spray brush disinfectant. There's also one for pressed products, and wipes (for lipsticks, etc). The company is called beautysoclean. Check out their website. I love it!!

Re: For those who use a foundation brush

I use Purity to wash my brushes; but I have also used foaming hand soap on occasion. I think the key is to rinse well....sometimes it takes a lot of rinsing to get the soap completely out of them. I wash them about once a week or so and I have two foundation brushes so one can dry while I use the other. That way I switch them out every week or so and they have plenty of dry time. It does take at least a day and a half for them to completely dry.
