On 12/6/2014 lovestoteach said:angelpuppy... Hi! Here is what works for me, and I have issues similar to yours... liquid foundation + faerieorganic mineral foundation + faerieorganic mineral veil. I use a buki that has an approx. 1 1/2 inch brush. Often, if trying for more powder and not to disturb what is under the veil/minerals, I will actually dab the minerals on first and then smooth out any excess.
I find that this product (the minerals) gives a dry on top but moist underneath finish to my skin. HTH
I've seen this brand mentioned before and it peaked my interest, I prefer some of the smaller indy brands. I don't use foundation, and currently using and love BE Mineral veil origional spf and have a hefty stash, along with Silk Naturals Luxury powder, add a few taps of SN zinc powder and add a rose color to the mix to bring it to the color that I want.
I need to go back and look again at their site to see if they have color choices. The BE runs golden on me, so I have to tweak it a bit, but I love how finely milled it is, the added protection of the TD and it doesn't settle into anything.
So finally my question, lol..........Is the Faerieorgainc finely milled and how would you describe the coloring? TIA

Hi, magemay... I have been using Faerieorganics for about 10 years and still LOVE it. The powder is finely milled (just like BE) I need a light, almost white foundation and the porcelain 00 works perfectly. The porcelain runs more yellow and a shade deeper for me... I can't wear it. I am thinking the porcelain would be equal to the BE fairly light, which is wrong for me. The BE FL is yellow and a shade darker on me.
The mineral foundation is truly that-- it has more "heft" in the powder. if I put a dot on a red area, it has a denser coverage (although none of it feel dense or heavy while wearing). To contrast, the veil has a texture and a feel comparable to BE veil. Using this produces a finish that turns dewy, but not moist. It doesn't look any way but like skin to me. The BO in the BE made me start feeling i t c h y. BE also began to make the crows feet look more so. HTH!
magemay... just to add, as long as we are maybe comparing products, I used something with silk in it (well, I sampled this) and my skin felt like it was suffocating. It might have been your brand... but I'm not sure. I think mine came from lucy naturals? maybe? out of FLA and it was a new company at the time... it had silk in it. I didn't care for that one...

Thanks for the helpful info., lovestoteach. I was wondering how the FO mineral veil compared to the BE Mineral veil. I'll check it out ![]()
I'm not a foundation user but had the BE loose foundation applied at an Ulta event years ago and did't like the feel, consistency and everything it could settle into, it did. That has never happened to me with BE Mineral Veil.

Are there any really good makeup tutorials for women like me --- my age, my concerns -- and who show things that are pretty simple?
I love the sounds of a lot of the products you have posted. But I am just afraid after I purchase, I will still be unhappy because of poor method of applying.
As for whether I want a finishing powder or a powder foundation --- I am thinking I want a finishing powder to go over my foundation. I always found powder foundation to be drying. But, there again, I have probably not tried the right ones!!!
Thanks, everyone. You're the best!
Some more suggestions for video tutorials, they can be found on YouTube. HotandFlashy
and Gossmakeupartist. HotandFlashy is facing aging issues herself, and her recommendations can be very helpful for other aging ladies. Gossmakeupartist does tons of reviews and videos, but he also has some good tutorials about aging eyes and just general basics of how to apply all kinds of makeup.
As for a finishing powder or powder foundation, often overlooked is NYC loose finishing powder. It is inexpensive, and works well as a fishing powder for many people. Coty Airspun is also very inexpensive, and can be used as a finishing powder or a foundation. My personal favorites are a mineral powder that has unfortunately been discontinued, but Meow Cosmetics and Everyday Minerals are similar. Palladio makes a wet/dry foundation that is nice, I found mine at Sally Beauty supply. My other favorites besides my d/c'ed mineral powder are Smashbox Halo and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish. Mac's Studio Blend pressed powder is good, made to be non-drying. Laura Geller Baked Balance N Brighten foundation might be worth a try. Mally Beauty Visable Skin is also very nice, I have used it and like it.
I hope these videos a product ideas in this thread give you good things to look at. ![]()

magemay: Since I am pretty much in love with FO (due to the fact that almost everything I try breaks me out and this doesn't), I can tell you that as far as veils are concerned, I never found a difference with the BE veil texture and the FO. I always have worn mineral foundations and veils together that were made as go-withs. I am not helpful to you in distinguishing between the two veils. I have stuck with the FO due to the no B Oxy that makes me @ t c h y. HTH

magemay... to continue about veils... both the BM and the FO are finely milled. Since I have always worn the two products together, both the foundation with the veil, I am no help to you as far as distinguishing between the two different makes. I stay with the FO since it does not have B Oxy in it.

I've had good luck with ASDM Beverly Hills mineral makeup powder, used as a finishing powder over foundation/CC cream. This is a loose powder and I tap a bit into the lid, swirl my brush around and then lightly dust my face.
I usually abhor mineral makeup because it's too shiny/metallic for me, but the ASDM mineral makeup leaves a slight 'glow', nothing too metallic-looking like BE does. If your foundation has a rather flat finish to it, the ASDM mineral makeup powder will make it look more like natural skin. You can find the mineral powder at asdmbeverlyhills.com.
Here's the brush I use to apply the mineral makeup powder, it's available at Target for 12.99, Sonia Kashuk® Core Tools Large Duo Fibre Multipurpose Brush - No 115. This brush applies the powder very lightly and will not disturb your foundation:

I personally like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores powder. It is very lightweight. With that being said I have heard many good things about Chanel loose powder, actually I may order it from Nordstrom!

Prescriptives Liquid Face Powder is beautiful and refreshing. Feels cool on application and leaves a soft focus look to the face....love it!

That's good to know that the FO is finely milled. I've read other posts that have said that B Oyx is problematic. I guess I can be glad it's not in BE original mineral veil that I use. ![]()
