Fading Tan Problem - any suggestions

I came back from vacation a week ago and had a really nice tan from the sun. Now it has started fading but it is fading in large spots on my upper arms, back and chest. It now looks like I have a disease or something since the faded spots are white.

When I was young I used to tan and this never happened to me. I have been trying to scrub off the tan area but making the white spots even larger.

Any suggestions please?
