I definitely 'explored' a few times in my younger days.  Had long hair that required lots of work in my 20's.  Even colored my hair for a while in my 20's.  Then went with the tight perm look, both short and shoulder length, in my 30's.  Then back to long with smooth curls and lots of work for several years.

The last 20+ years I've been a 'nester' with basically the same short, finger-fluffed hairdo.  I got lazy and tired of messing with it all the time.

For most of my adult life my hair has been shoulder length but I often get tired of it that length and chop it all off into a shorter style.  In fact, I had been growing my hair out for my wedding so I could have a fancy updo and on my honeymoon I had it all cut off into a short bob.

I've had it many lengths/styles and colored it red for thirty years. When I retired cut it very short while going grey.  For last 13 years its been about 4" below my shoulders and a gray white color.  Especially during pandemic its been so easy, no styling required.

Re: Explorer or Nester

Explorer.  I am open to experiment with different shades of red. I typically have a Spring/Summer red (my avatar) and a Fall/Winter Red (more auburn/violet).  I also cut/grow, cut/grow so that I typically don't keep the same style  every year.  I have 100% trust in my hairdresser so I just tell her to "do whatever" & have never been disappointed.

I actually got a perm in February.  My last one was in 1995.  I wanted more consistency with my natural curl.  She hadn't even done a perm since beauty school, but I told her that didn't bother me.  She did a great job & now I think she has the "bug" to do more perms!  I'm so please with my perm that I think I may end up getting them regularly (2x year).  We'll see...Woman LOL

Explorer.  Last May my hair was so miserable I took trimmers and buzzed it all off.  Now my bio hair is punk sticky out.  I do color it to keep the gray away.

Since my bald look was freaky, I started with wigs--mostly pixie or short bobs--all colors like pink, purple, green, blue, orange, etc.  I do have 6 grown up real wigs, too.  Tomorrow I'll get my 24th wig.  It will be long and I plan to try updos.  Never had that much hair before.

In a way it is freeing to do what I wish.
