I'm always looking for the bargain, but foundation is one of those things I don't buy on sale. I think the color and consistency is the most important thing, not the price. Chanel has nice foundations, but so do IT Cosmetics and Josie Maran (my newest find). My sister had a drugstore foundation that was very nice, so price isn't always the determining factor.
I ask for a small amount of a particular foundation as a sample and then bring it home and test it looking at my face in bright daylight. That for me is the acid test of whether a foundation is good. The big department stores and Sephora will do this for you.

I like Chanel too. When I was younger I could use most drug store brands and I know there are some really good ones now. It's a matter of finding the right one and of course the right color.
If any Fab Fifty plus knows of a L'Oreal, Revlon (or other budget brand) that works well for dry mature skin, please share.
I don't wear makeup all the time these days so the Chanel lasts me a long time but I'd certainly buy something cheaper if it worked.
I agree the drug store prices are creeping up but I see Ebay have prices like $7.99 for Revlon and L'Oreal, just wondering if they are fresh. Could we really find a foundation we like for $7.99, I'd sure like to think so. ![]()

For me, no. My mom always used the expensive stuff - when I got to the point in my career when I could afford the high-end brands, I tried several. I didn't like any of them. They weren't any better than my drugstore faves, and some were actually worse. So I went back to drugstore foundations, eye makeup, lipstick, etc., and never looked back.

I buy what is on sale and mostly from box stores - drug stores. Do also love Avon.
I have no clue if there is a difference and really don't care. I like to spend my 'fortune' on Gadgets... my thing.

LOL, I'm getting into gadgets too now.
Would you share which gadgets you have and which you like?

I really think it depends on your skin type and/or skin issues. I have sensitive, oily/combination skin with huge pores. Now that I am in my forties, I also have some fine lines that are emphasized by the makeup I've used for years- Lancome's Dual Finish powder. After trying other less expensive liquid foundations, I've found that Guerlain's Lingerie De Peau Invisible Skin Fusion Foundation is perfect for my skin. Pores and fine lines are blurred, and the color match is perfect. Furthermore, I've had no allergic reactions to this foundation. It's ridiculously expensive, but I only have to use a single pump for my entire face. A bottle lasts for nearly 6 months. So, yes, it's worth it for me.
Having said that, my mother is in her early sixties but doesn't have large pores or sensitive skin. She can and does wear less expensive liquid foundation beautifully. My foundation wouldn't be worth the price for her.

I would buy from drugstores if they had tester bottles, but I never see that. It's impossible to get the right color match without that.

I buy based on the ingredients. I'm trying to not use all the nasty stuff that most cosmetics have in them so the brands I use are more pricey. I also put in a dab of moisturizer to make them more of a bb or cc cream as most times liquid foundations are way to heavy for me. Am doing that now to use up what I have before buying more. I know--why not buy the bb or cc creams----if I could find one I like I would. This way I get a little more color but in a lighter form.
