NOT dandruff but just a dry, and at times itchy.  I realized that I am washing my hair too much.  When I was growing up we washed our hair once a week.  It was not dirty but we let the oils come up into the scalp.  Now this washing every 2 days is drying my scalp out and I am going to try to go 5 days hopefully 6 day before I wash.  I mean, I do not roll in the dirt and I seldom use hairspray.  So I am going to try this new (yet old) approach to eliminate the itching.  I use Maracuja oil that I massage into my scalp to stop the itching which works but I really need to bring the oil up to resolve the problem in the first place.  How about you?

I used to have very oily hair and scalp.  I wished I still did as my hair was very silky and healthy!  Not these days --- my hair and scalp are dry.  I am like you.  I have no dandruff but my scalp feels dry and itchy.  I don't use styling products or spray as these seemed to make it worse.  I quit washing my hair very day as it seemed to make the dryness worse.  I have switched to Johnson's baby shampoo and a conditioner that has no fragrance.  It seems to help some but does not totally eliminate the issues.  I don't know what the cure is, really.  Wish I knew!  I attribute it to another great part of aging!

@AngelPuppy1  Oh, don't tell me it's another part of the aging process.  LOL   I recently purchased Mario Badescu Chamomile shampoo and it is gentle but gets rid of build up and my scalp did not itch.  However, we still need to let the oils come up.

@Katcat1

Beats me!  Every time I get something else wrong, I blame it on that!  I think that a good gentle brushing every day helps.  At least it feels good for awhile and should help to distribute what oil we do have.  I used to look in the stores all the time --- when we were allowed out -- and try to come up with different remedies -- shampoos, conditioners, etc.    -- trying to come up with something that would help.

Good morning @Katcat1 . Sulfates also dry out your scalp. Check your shampoo and maybe eliminate that. I go an extra few days using dry shampoo at bedtime so it has time to absorb oils before morning. Also brush your hair w/ a boar bristle brush to stimulate natural oils on scalp.

@AngelPuppy1   Here's a shocker...Baby Shampoos are not as gentle as we think. Some have drying lathering ingredients. Check the label.

@SilleeMee  recommended a TeaTree shampoo and conditioner that did the trick for me.  Since I switch my shampoos around a bit, I added a couple drops of tea tree oil to my shampoo and that did away with the itch. I can't imagine not washing my hair everyday so I needed a solution.  This was it for me!

Several years I had a reaction to a conditioner.  Never figured just what it was.  Perhaps a change out of all hair products is called for.

Once I got a BOGO of baby shampoo/body wash and that did a real number elsewhere on the privates.  They are not to be trusted.

Cured mine by using Tweak-d cleansers and far less blow drying.  Letting my curls shine.
