As for pain, there is none! Maybe you're pressing too hard. I use the 1. and the .05 (on the areas around my nose and my lower eyelids). I just read that you need not go higher for optimum results. I do use a serum before I roll and follow up after I'm done with a night therapy moisturizer. It's working for me.

In addition to dermaroll, I do exfolliate often and every few months treat myself to a professional peel at my PS's office. When I add up what I spend on good skin care, it's far less $$ than people spend on Dr. P's products or any other commercial skin care on QVC. And I get results.

Sunscreen every day--rain or shine. 30+ for every day use. More SPF if I'm going to be out in the sun.

For me it is painful altho nothing to bad but it does make my eyes water and my nose run when I roll. I apply basically no pressure. Maybe I need to go with a smaller needle size.

Thank you, I will try and find the old threads/comments.

What is the best dermaroller to get for a beginner aged 63? I assume I just need the .5 to start with?

According to Dr. Setterfield, the 0.05 is the best, PERIOD. You don't want a longer needle -- it won't do as good a job. See my post above. There's no "beginner". He also said that rolling 2 - 3x weekly with a 0,02 or 0.03 will be beneficial in making your products/treatments work better.

See my post above. -- going down in size was less uncomfortable. We want to be and STAY at 0.05. Again, see my post above and search previous threads.

Re: Dermaroller users. See any improvement???????????

tends2dogs, Thank you for that information, I am just going to start reading as much as I can as it seems there is a lot to learn but I really want to order one now LOL!

I have just been looking at owndocs website and the choice is mind boggling! I am torn between wanting to start slowly and sensibly with 0.5 but have been reading for sagging that you need 1.5. Much as I do need it for sagging around jowls I think the 0.5 would be good to start with at least until I get used to the sensation etc.

I am also wondering it if will help tighten skin - as in bingo wings/flabby thighs etc. although I am sure I would need a heavy duty one for that!

I have a feeling I will not get much work done today with all this research!

Re: Dermaroller users. See any improvement???????????

I have just bought 0.5 for the face and 1.5 for the body once I am more used to it. What should I put on my face after the treatment as I normally just use moisturiser?

Any help/tips would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't this be miraculous if something so no frills and basic made all the difference??!!

Just was thinking about trying this on my hands to thicken up the skin to hide the new veins showing through. It was suggested on Youtube.

Where did you ladies find Dr. Setterfields protocol and where is the best place and type of dermaroller to buy?

I always roll my hands and neck. Whatever treatment I do to my face I always apply to my hands and neck. That includes retinol, vitamin c serum, and the lightstim. I purchased my first roller from owndoc dot com, then I purchased an MT roller from Hautelook when they had a sale, and the latest smaller roller (also an MT), from Amazon.

Did you prefer the MT to owndoc's, beautybee?

Hi Maren! I don't have a preference. I think because when I purchased the one from Owndoc it was the 1.0. That is before I read about the Setterfield protocol. My MT rollers are the .5 and the 2.5. I think they are good quality rollers. You can't go wrong buying rollers from either place. I know some people do well getting very inexpensive rollers from ebay, but you have to be careful with the quality.

At this time I may alternate my 1.0 with the .5 until I need new ones. Then I will stick with the .5 for the monthly rolls. I use my Isomers firming serum immediately after my roll. Hopefully Manuela will have the big bottle of hyaluronic acid available later this year. I plan to get it just for my monthly roll.

Oh and as if I don't have enough beauty routines to do, I also use a Lyapko roller on my head. Lol! Brings circulation and makes hair grow. I learned about it from Tonya Zavasta. She sells the large one on her site but I managed to get a less expensive one from an ebay seller.

I agree about questionable quality -- I saw the pictures of bent needles on owndoc! They even switched suppliers because they found the quality had slipped with the one they had been using. I'm happy and confident buying from them, but it takes about 3 weeks to get from the Czech Republic. I'll look into the MT -- thanks!

And I'm VERY interested in the hair roller! I know it had been mentioned for helping hair grow, but I couldn't see going over my whole head with a small roller -- didn't know they had large ones. I'll check this out! And now the Burning Question: Have you seen results in your hair growth? Thanks!!

A good guideline is you don't want to put anything on your face that you wouldn't want to ingest because it can go directly into your system and bloodstream. I've read of people using any and everything, though, but I'd rather just play it safe.

I'm currently just using a nice Vitamin C serum, then I pat in Josie Maran Argan oil over it. But I'm sure others will be along to share what they use.

Re: Dermaroller users. See any improvement???????????

I seem to be having good success using a .05 roller lightly several times a week on the lines beside my mouth, followed by Retin A. In the morning I use BHA 2% because even though I'm almost 70, I still struggle with cystic acne. I also roll under and over my eyes, followed by Green Cream #3.

The improvements I'm noticing include softening of the lines around my mouth and a general lifting of my eye area. I'm also developing small, attractive dimples at the corners of my mouth; a fun bonus.

I was following my Retin A with Algenist Serum, which I dearly love for its texture as a primer under my makeup. Unfortunately, continued use of Algenist Serum on my cheek area brought some old, deep cysts to the surface that took a couple of months to eradicate - sigh. So I'm now only using Algenist Serum on my eye area and on my hands.

One of the ways I know this routine is working is that I'm no longer so totally horrified by what I see in the mirror in passing. So I'm hopeful that by Christmas I'll look even better. The look I'm going for is not necessarily younger, but healthier and more vibrant. So far so good... {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

It's too soon to tell. I've had it for about 5 weeks. I really like it. As with everything else on my body, I try to attack my hair from several fronts. Lol! I started to lose hair from my temples so I use the equate version of rogaine for women. Inexpensive and works well but takes a long time to start seeing results

And then finally I used the big roller. Tonya also uses it on her face and neck to bring circulation to her face. But since I exercise I don't need to do that. I do like the way it feels. It looks like a giant sized roller but the needles don't feel really sharp against my skin the way the small dermaroller does.

My hair is becoming thinner due to menopause so I am desperately trying to hold on to the four hairs I have left on my head. Lol! With all I do to it, it does look healthier than if I did nothing at all.

The Lyapko roller was invented by a doctor for physical therapy. I think the doctor is from the Ukraine.

heathermary, Lyn in Mi and I went a little crazy researching this. But, I was not going to try this without thorough research. She and I both bought Dr. Setterfield's book. It's been awhile since I've read it. To summarize it though (although Maren pretty much has):

.05 once per month. You do not need to use a longer needle. In fact, a longer needle may actually damage the collagen. The .05 will induce collagen production without damage. Dermarolling is also known as CIT (Collagen Induction Therapy)

.02 or .03 can be used more frequently for product absorption

192 or 540 needles? Hands down, 192 high grade stainless steel needles. The 540 titanium needles are actually little knives slicing through your skin.

Before you begin - you may want to avoid retinA or retinol for a week or so before. Certainly your skin should not be peeling or already irritated from product, etc. I cleanse my skin and use an organic and/or green tea toner before rolling. I love a green tea toner from 100% Pure but it is pricey.

Product after .05 - tread carefully. You've pierced your skin, the protective barrier to your body. I am very careful about what I apply after a .05 roll and prefer RHSO only, usually. Oh, forgot, I sometimes will use a homemade green tea toner before the oil. I've read that you should not apply copper serums after as copper peptides aid in healing. The point is to not hasten the healing process. The healing process is what is inducing the collagen. I have applied C serum but it stung like crazy. I will not apply anything that I would not eat after a .05 and I wait about a week before doing the lighter .02/.03 absorption rolling. I would never, ever apply any AHA's, BHA's, etc immediately after a .05 or .02/.03 for that matter.

Product after .02/.03 - I still tread carefully but not as vigilant after .05. I usually use a safe toner, maybe Vit C (still stings), NCN Copper Peptide Serum. I've also used AQ Skin Solutions GF serum but am not comfortable recommending that to anyone. I've become more brave as to what I will apply as time has passed but again, each person has to decide that. I almost always use an oil as a last step. Again, you've pierced the barrier and, at least for me, the skin is drier than usual. I've also used and really like 100%Pure Vit A lotion.

Of course, it is very important to be sure the roller is clean before and after each use. There are sanitizing systems and products available but I've been successful with alcohol and soaking the roller in denture soak to remove any buildup.

Hope that helps a little.
