I actually had to sit bent over with my head almost on the floor while an assistant did something to my hair. I think she was massaging it with hair gel. Really, I have better things to do with that extra hour I spent on this nonsense.
My hair has been especially dry since I started coloring it. I just found what I think might be my Holy Grail hair moisturizer after trying so many things: coconut oil. I found a jar of it at the discount store and it looked like lard in the jar. However, it becomes an oil within seconds of putting it on your hands. I soaked my curls with it last night and then this morning colored my roots. While my hair was still wet, I put a modest amount on my hands and ran it through wet hair. My hair doesn't look oily and every one of my curls is defined. My dryness is gone, and my hair looks like it did when I was 20, bouncy, shiny, and not dry or dull.
Congratulations on finding what works for you! The "upside down" thing is standard for Deva trained stylists. It gets the weight of your curls off your scalp, encourages your curl pattern to form while scrunching in products, and gives maximum volume when your hair actually dries. I would hope you don't consider others' opinions as "nonsense" very often. Not very becoming.
Health food stores sell a liquid form of coconut oil if you prefer.

Expatgal: I was referring to having to hang upside-down at the salon as nonsense. It was not directed at you.
Funloving: Thanks so much for the info! I will check that out. I was wondering where I'd find more coconut oil because I got it at a discount store where their inventory constantly changes.

Ms X - You're quite welcome! I know I use coconut oil for so many things, including for my hair.. the liquid form is much more convenient for me than having to soak the jar in hot water to liquify. It's great stuff, I agree. And I knew what you meant about the use of "nonsense"... The way I read it, it wasn't offensive or directed at anyone... simply the usage of a word expressing your own personal feelings.
Glad I didn't have to send you both to the principals office...

I know there's a more 'technical' reason for using microfiber towels- but I find it simply absorbs much more of the excess water - my hair dries faster naturally- and the curls pop.
It's not to technical, but the idea is that terry cloth towels roughen up the cuticle, which is something we curly-haired people definitely don't need.

Yes, I understand. I think those of us with curly hair come to depend upon -cones quite a bit. I will say that I don't know whether it's the lack of -cones or just the whole portion of the method that I've adopted, but I no longer have any build-up or gunky residue gumming up my hair or roots.
P.S. Of course I meant "too" technical in my post, not "to."

Best case they actually work! they will make perfectly good wash clothes also and for 6 of them it was 9 dollarsOn 5/18/2014 Andreatoo said:On 5/18/2014 suzyQ3 said:it sounds reasonable and it's something that's easy to incorporate into my routine. Thanks, Ms X! I get pretty passionate about my DevaCurl.
Update on the mushy hair situation: I washed my hair twice this morning with Kinky Curly "Come Clean" clarifying shampoo. Followed it with a dab of DevaCare "One Condition" then scrunched in my Biosilk "Rock Hard Gelee" as usual. It made a HUGE difference in the feel/texture/curl definition. One more good washing and I should be back.

I used Aquis towels for 10 years and swore by them until I tried a t-shirt. That's made a huge difference for me and now I get even less frizz in my hair than I did with the Aquis towels.

I am a Ouidad girl - I get a Ouidad cut and use the Ouidad styling products - cannot live without the Climate Control Gel. I have baby fine ringlet hair.
I use Bio-loge shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair.
I keep forgetting to use the micro-fiber towels that I have - I will try and remember for tomorrow
