@aprilskies @I've been discourage about shows and movies, too. I want something intelligent, but not violent or too dark or stressful. Is that too much to ask? My solution is to rewatch things I know will feel good. Kinda dumb, but there it is. And I can do other things at the same time, so that's a plus. I just binged The Good Place, and that was fun. I may have to break out Casablanca soon.

@KaySD

I appreciate a good story, well-written dialogue and characters that I actually care about.

Sometimes I get to the end of a film and think: There wasn't one person in that movie I liked.

Ever watch a movie and you're halfway through it and you still don't know the names of the characters?

I have no problem watching favorites endlessly.

@just bee

Or the plot?

I have become my mother.  She couldn't follow a two hour movie and watched the same shows endlessly every day.  I do that now.  Most nights if I start watching a show after 7:30 I fall asleep before it's done and I don't know what happened anyway.  (Thank goodness for recordings so I can rewatch.)

The thing that bothers me about that behavior is that my mother was in her late eighties when she was like that.  I'm not even seventy yet.🥺

Me, too. I don't have TV, but from time to time I subscribe to Netflix, Prime, Apple, Acorn or Britbox. I've had the Pride and Prejudice movie from the 80s, starring Elizabeth Garvie, on heavy rotation lately, and 😊🍷there's always Poirot...

@just bee  Ooh, good one, I'll have to think about that. Tell me a film you like to listen to.

Does soundtrack mean music? I do respond to the music, if there is any, but I don't tend to think about it. Mostly I listen to the dialog and the sounds of whatever is going on in the scenes. And I do listen to the same videos over and over, just hearing those sounds.

I have the impression that European movies tend to have a less continuous soundtrack--lots of times when you aren't getting any music--where US films tend to have almost continuous music. Is it true? I'm not at all knowledgeable about this--I'm fairly ignorant about both movies and music.

@just bee

Pardon the interruption-

Can you check out this thread RE nursing?  I wanted to page you on it, because IIRC you went back to school for nursing, but I can't page you there because of the space in your name.

The poster is @Retired08.

TIA!

They've revised their original data as of July 6.  New Mexico is now ranked 47 instead of 51 (51 because they included District of Columbia).

Michigan is 32.

@just bee - I find that hard to believe that 18 states are still more restricted than us, considering that we still aren't supposed to have more than 10 people together in one room, etc. At least I think that's the latest, after more than 140 executive orders, I honestly can't keep straight what is current or not. I've given up trying.

I would believe when the lockdowns first started that we were in the top 3. I feel like we've been to hell.

After a particularly... uh, challenging week at work, I'd like to wait a little longer before I jump in with a response.

Most of the responses on that thread were pretty accurate.  After I fill the birdbath, walk the dog and have six or seven Amstel Lights, I'll respond.

Just kidding.  I'll probably only need three or four.

Oooh.  Now that's an interesting question.  There are many.  And for many reasons.

This requires some thought.  Let me think about  it.

I can tell you that I recently watched a film that I found utterly repugnant and much of that was because the characters were not people I could care about and the film's soundtrack was probably the worst I'd ever experienced.  The movie was noise -- just noise -- from start to finish.

Uncut Gems.

Very disappointing.

I'll come back to this.

@rnmom

Woman Mad

Don't get me started.

The Tiny Tyrant is at it again.  Long speech yesterday and more punishment.  She's even threatening to have more speeches.  Maybe every couple days.  That's way more finger-wagging than necessary.

First, in an effort to thoroughly destroy what's left of our state's economy, she has shut down indoor dining once again.  Patios can operate at 50% capacity.  We're in the middle of a heat wave.  Triple digits.  Just when people would like to go into an air-conditioned restaurant or brewery to have a meal and some adult beverages.

Instead, they will be allowed to sit and bake on a steaming hot patio in the New Mexico sun and enjoy a wilted salad and tepid glass of water.  Sounds like fun!  Would you like some heat stroke with that salad?

Masks are now mandatory at all times if you leave your home.  Used to be that if you were exercising (walking, running, biking, walking the dog) you were allowed to skip the mask.  No more.  Jog in triple digits and make sure you're wearing that mask.

There are so many new ones -- just in time to ruin what's left of summer and the economy.  Like tourism.  She wants to see your i.d. at state parks.  If you're from out of state (you know, one of those tourists we depend on for survival), you're not allowed in the park.

I'll stop there.  I'm having a stroke.
