Re: ComPact 2020 -- Adaptable April

@just bee  Oh, I gotcha. Well, that's my point—I don't think I can drive. Or should drive. Enforcement is at the discretion of local law enforcement.  Of course the DMV is closed, and even if they weren't, I wouldn't want to stand in the usual hours-long lines. Can you imagine the backlog they'll have when they finally do open? I know it's nobody's fault, but for me, it's the proverbial rock and hard place.

This⬆️

Surely your DMV has some provisions for situations like yours.  Perhaps you could at least find out one way or another on their website.  It's possible you could drive under the present circumstances.

Re: ComPact 2020 -- Adaptable April

An observation:

 It seems like people (here, anyway) are already out and about even before the Gov has loosened any restrictions.  Once it was announced that a few states would be opening up and when our Gov just announced the dates he would be letting us know when we could start opening up, there was more trafffic on the roads.

I noticed more people in the stores the last time I went.  And I heard that Lowe's was absolutely packed over the weekend--no distancing or masks.

@geezerette

The novelty has worn off.

I'm noticing more cars on the road and more people out walking around.  More patients are showing up at the hospital, too.  Last week was busy.  Had patients who we'd never seen before.

We're headed into a heatwave, so it will be interesting if the heat has some effect on our COVID numbers.

I was just out walking the dog before it heated up and I saw a van with the words...

CORONA HOAX SCAM

...painted on the back bumper.

A bold statement, considering this was a company van.

But I can understand why business owners are losing patience.  The mayor of Grants "reopened" the city businesses this week.  Some opened, some didn't.  But he had a good point: "The governor says if you work at __________, you're gonna die.  If you work at _____________, you're gonna die.  But if you work at Walmart..."

I heard Mark Steyn on the radio yesterday.  He also made a good point.

That's what I figured too.

People are complaining that our supply chains are broken.  How can they be maintained with people staying at home and 3/4 of the country literally closed for business?

You can argue if this was handled 'properly' or not.  But I think this was a darned if you do, darned if you don't situation.  No matter what we did or didn't do, daily life was going to be drastically altered.

We continue to see positive cases in our state, but the number of those in the hospital and on ventilators is dropping.  Sadly, the death rate continues to increase, although slowly.  That seems to be the one area that seniors are in the majority.  But it does seem that fewer people are getting the virus (even though our testing has increased drastically) and those that are seem to be able to deal with it at home.

(I thought the most interesting thing Mark Steyn said yesterday was that his hair was completely white now.)

@just bee Sure, for urgent stuff, but not for routine. My dentist, eye and PCP appts have all been rescheduled twice now, and my chiro is not scheduling. Here's hoping nothing becomes urgent b/c of putting it off, right?

@KaySD

I know those appointments are in limbo -- I'm still waiting for official cancellation of next week's dental visit.  But how can you drive with an expired license?

I know some states have allowed extensions of expired licenses. The DMV/MVA websites should have that information. Mine is good for 30 days after Maryland's emergency order is lifted.

Well, well, well.  Will wonders never cease?

Just heard today that we're getting a Costco in the state.  A, as in one.  Beggars can't be choosers.

And a long white beard.  Fibber.

In New Mexico, The Navajo community has been hit hard.  And McKinley County in the NW section of the state has more cases than much more populous Bernalillo County (Albuquerque).
