ComPact 2019 – Nurturing November

The ComPact is a commitment to simplify, pare down, streamline. It began as a way to gain some control over our collections of beauty products. Why were we amassing so much, yet not using what we were buying? Why were we always searching for the next new product? Why couldn't we just find what worked for us and stick with it?

The ComPact, however, is not restricted to beauty items. If you have a collection you want to address, do it here. Choose an area you want to work on, and track your progress on the ComPact thread. Members will offer tips and encouragement.

Choose one of our many mantras (“One by one until they’re done!” “We are SPAHHHRRRTAN!!!” “Not until you really have to.” “Buy less, choose well, make it last.” “Resist the propaganda.” "If it's high, I don't buy!" “When in doubt, do without!” “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.”  "Only the store, online no more!" “Shoplighters of the World Unite!”) or create a new one and share it. Target items each month to toss, donate, or use, and post your “chopping block” -- or “hit list.” Post temptations, post victories.

They say it takes 30 days for something to become a habit: Let's see if taking the ComPact one month at a time works for you.

Re: ComPact 2019 – Nurturing November

Hey, all you HEPcats and HEPdogs! We had discussed making the Healthy Eating thread a monthly jam session, so I just went ahead and did a little improvisation.

This is an invite to our crazy crib where you can come and break it down! I say we go 18 karat on this and really swing. If healthy eating’s not your bag, no problem. But if it is, I dig.

It’s cool, I’m booted, let’s jump!

Re: ComPact 2019 – Nurturing November

Nice forum. We all need reminders, check ups and encouragements. I've got my make up/ beauty products in order. (finally) I have a smaller bag for my handbag and one I keep at home. That's all the  room I allow myself, and I like wearing make up. Add to the bag, something has to go. How many lipsticks do I need when I know my color? Tossed a lot last spring.

Returned from vacation and resisted buying Southwest jewelry, clothes and art. Wanted it, but didn't need it. Did buy cute tee shirts for grandsons. Felt good about limiting my purchases.

It's a day-to-day awareness thing, isn't it?

@jeanlake

Yes, it is.  Took a house fire to finally get me to ComPact what I'd avoided for so long.

I don't recommend anything that drastic, of course.

And one more thing...

WELCOME

I'm supposed to be on my way to Santa Fe today.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

@just bee

That's why I was surprised to see the new thread already today.  Figured you must have started on your train trip.

You haven't even started packing?  Yikes!😳

Just look at it this way:  you'll either have fun and feel better when you get back, or you won't--and you won't ever have to leave home again. ☺️

Get moving, woman! 😘

Re: ComPact 2019 – Nurturing November

Definition of procrastinate

transitive verb

: to put off intentionally and habitually

intransitive verb

: to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done.

How I have begun to hate this word.

Why, you might ask? Because the last few years it describes me. I never used to be a -  cough- procrastinator. What happened? Am I fooling myself in thinking I'm slowing down time? If I haven't prepared, then it's not happening yet?

@geezerette  I have an appliance man coming today and need to get up and do dishes, but it's my day off work and I don't want to. I hope I don't get your repair guy, this is my oven that quit working...over 5 months ago!!!!!! There is that procrastination smacking me in the face again.

Think I'll have another cup of coffee then think about doing some dishes. That is after I check my emails...
