Re: ComPact 2018 – Now November

Well, I made a big ta-do about the It Girl palette from the Q. I got it and it was HORRIBLE! The blush was neon strawberry pink and the eyeshadows were chaulky. I went on vacation to see my son for 5 days and brought it with me and OMG I looked horrid for the whole time.

Needless to say I sent it back and I am out of $7. I am giving up on IT Cosmetics they really just don't work for me. Plus the presentations are sheer torture.

My skin is so dry right now I am thinking of ordering BE's Complextion Rescue tinted moisturizer. I used to use it but moved to IT CC creams which I now detest. Should I go for it?

@Squirrel Lover  IT prodcuts don't work for me, either.  They break me out.  If BE's Complexion Rescue work for you, then go for it.  Macy's has 15% Beauty right now.

Once again, I could have written most of your post myself.  I certainly can relate to all of it.

Truthfully, I’m not in the mood right now to elaborate, and I’m sure none of you care to hear me whining about what, in the grand scheme of things, is puny.

But I think you sum up a lot of my feelings now at the end of your post:

” ...or maybe, I just want next year to be different.  So tired of worrying about the same ole things. I cant change everything but I can change some things and those are what I need to work on....”

So very true for me.  I spend so much time worrying and thinking about things I have no control over, yet the things I can do something about I ignore, much to my own eventual detriment.  Time to reverse that.

Or at least give it a better try.

We tend to put things off, waiting for the right time or the significant time to make a big change when we should just be tweaking along the way.  It's the small changes, the small, smart decisions that improve our situation.

We use birthdays.  By 30, I'll have my act together.  Okay, by 40.  Then 50 comes around and you're still dealing with "the same ol' things."

If I don't address the list I had at 30 when I'm 60, it will never be addressed.  The good news is that the list is a lot shorter now.

But a lot of it is addressing that which was created when I was 30.

I swear it's like swimming through oatmeal.

I made the mistake of going to Maybelline's website and perusing the makeup.  These are products that are for a select few.  Which is good.  Most of the country won't see anyone walking around like this.

These colors do not enhance a complexion of a certain age.  I don't want these colors in my house -- why do I want them on my face?

No

I wore peculiar colors in the '80s.  I was in my 20s.  I had that excuse.  I have to say that living in the high desert has given me an appreciation of subtle colors.

To me, makeup is like food.  If you can't find it in nature, avoid it.

@Squirrel Lover

I tried IT a couple of times (back when I wore actual “makeup”), but the colors never worked for me.

I had the most luck with Bare Escentuals, although I’ve never tried the Complexion Rescue.  If that works for you, it’s a better buy than something that doesn’t! 🙃

Re: ComPact 2018 – Now November

Speaking of high desert color...

I saw an interesting color through the window and opened the front door to see the sky and Sandias during our sunset.  And there was a package.

I ordered Paula's Choice facial cleanser on Cyber Monday and here it is.

I still think that finding the right cleanser is half the battle.  And since I've started actually using a Lumene moisturizer on my face, I've seen and felt a difference.

But it can all go to h_ll in an instant if you don't drink enough water, eat right and sleep.

I'd rather invest in food than in makeup.

And that's what I miss about bareMinerals.  It was the first time the color on my face worked for me.  Even I was considering the Rescue when I thought I'd never find another tube of Lumene.

[ Edited ]

I'm wondering why we're still drawn to palettes.

That's easy.  The colors are just so pretty.  In the palette.

I only have those two ancient e.l.f. shadow palettes and, of the eight colors, I always use the "one."

The darker colors are enticing, but too dark.  I finally pulled out the old Smashbox brush from the '90s (when I was using their cream liner) and started using it with the dark shadows (Ooooh, Barnabas!) instead of eye pencil under the lower lashes.

Again, subtle.

Smart!  Then you can start the new year not needing anything. Woman Very Happy

@just bee You would think. And that's the plan. But IRL it doesn't always happen. Woman Frustrated

I have 1 tub of body butter and 2 partial tubes of body lotion remaining that I purchased between 2017-2018. I pretty much did not use body lotion during the summer. So knowing that I only bought one additional lotion.  That should get me through 2019. I've gotten much better at not stocking up on bath & body products.

I have not gotten better at not buying eyeshadow. Sad face.

@Oshare-girl  I am the opposite.  I am doing so much better at not buying makeup, in fact, I have not bought any this November. However, I am not doing good at all on bath and body products.  In fact, I have way too much body butters, shower gels, and soaps.  But what did I do yetserday?  I ordered more bar soaps :<
