@rnmom wrote:@just bee and @geezerette- thanks for the suggestions about the fruits and veggies. I will think about them when I'm shopping today. Maybe I'll see if they want to tag along and help pick some stuff out. They don't usually like to go but maybe they'll want to today.
That sounds fun. Each person gets to choose one interesting item to share.
Rutabagas might not be the best choice to start with, but the little potatoes and heirloom tomatoes that are packaged in different colors are fun. Each color tastes different.
Rutabagas are actually delicious. Cooked, anyway. I don’t know how they taste raw—they’re too hard for me to try that way. They’re sweet, kind of like not eating real vegetables. Which is always a good thing. They’re hard to find here and whenever I check out at the grocery store I have to tell the clerk what their produce code is because nobody even knows what they are.
When I was on a restricted diet years ago, I ate rutabagas for breakfast. My mother was always freaked out about that for some reason. I never saw the reasoning behind having to eat vegetables for lunch and dinner and not for breakfast. Just because that Kellogg guy decided we needed to eat his cereal instead.
My sister used to say that she would die before she gave up her sweets and ate rutabagas for breakfast. Now she’s having osteo problems and still doesn’t believe me when I tell her that diet affects your joints, muscles, etc. Oh well.

Ulta is unrelenting with their sales and coupons. I just received 20% off even on prestige items. That is just awesome. While they don’t have everything Sephora carries, they are not stingy with their coupons. I don’t need anything but it is nice to see the 20% isn’t just offered once a year.

Ooh, @rnmom, really happy to hear you have lots of storage now. Good for you!
I feel the storage I have "should" be enough, but somehow isn't. There's a part of me that still suffers a hangover from my upbringing, when nothing was extra and nothing was wasted. I had to eat every bite of food because of the "starving Armenians." What a hoot. Well, I've figured out that the valuable part of that lesson is to cultivate appreciation of what I have, not guilt about others. And I'm okay not being a minimalist. The part I don't like is overbuying in the first place.
The good news is, that's what this Compact group is for, and I appreciate all of you!

@just bee, you asked, "I don't know why books are so hard to part with."
That's easy--it's because they're books. Books! BOOKS!! If you really love books, you couldn't have so many shelves that you wouldn't long to fill them up. Just having them there is such a lovely thing. I like the way they look, the way they feel, the way they smell. They're friends of mine, rich veins of information and fun, patient companions waiting to be consulted. Every reason I wanted each of them to begin with is still there. After food, they are the one things I always give myself permission to buy, no matter how stretched my budget is.
That said, I've given away a zillion books. Some are dull or otherwise unappealing. Some, like your political ephemera, are seriously past their sell by. A few I can't remember when or why I acquired. And others are just too lightweight to take up space in my head, let alone my house. So they have to scoot to make room for others (after a Marie Kondo type pat of appreciation). I'm going through a little purge right now, and hope every one of them finds a new friend.

Grrr. Laundromats. I feel ya, @just bee
February:
felicitous
fixed up
fresh
festive
fair
flourishing
fulfilling
fancy
How's that?

Laundromats, yuck. Like having to use someone else’s toothbrush. Gives me the heebie-geebies. At least you have one. We don’t have any left in our town.
My condolences on the demise of your washer. And my commiserations on having to buy a new one. That’s almost as bad as having to use a laundromat. I think whoever designs and manufactures them now has never washed a load of clothes in their lives. At least they haven’t washed rugs, towels or sheets. Mine always end up unbalanced so that the machine tries to walk out of the laundry room.
February? I, too, can only think of one ‘F’ word. Gutter mind, that’s me.

😈
My problem isn’t moving the needle. It moves—just in the wrong direction!😩

I can certainly relate to that needle headed in the wrong direction. I can't tell you how many 'first day of healthy eating days' I have gone through. I finally had to face what I had known for a long time and that was bread/sweets were such a trigger for me. Once I gave them up I have lost 6 lbs and eating so much healthier. With the carbs, I just had no portion control and just went crazy once I started. I pray I don't think carbs will work for again. That was definitely the definition of insanity for me. My health insurance has a food/fitness app to make me accountable and that has really helped also.
On another note, I did order some Dr Denese products.

😂 Exactly. And my patience seems to be moving in the same direction.
I use to be such a patient person. Where has that girl gone.
