@just bee and @geezerette- thanks for the suggestions about the fruits and veggies. I will think about them when I'm shopping today. Maybe I'll see if they want to tag along and help pick some stuff out. They don't usually like to go but maybe they'll want to today.

One more suggestion would be fruit smoothies.  Throw some spinach in there.  It turns the smoothie a pretty green but the spinach is undetectable, really.  However, it has to be light fruit like banana or something. Berries turn it a shade of brown, not purty.

@rnmom

Yeah, what's up with strawberries turning that horrid brown?

My favorite way to eat strawberries?  My high school French teacher taught us to dip a fresh berry in sour cream and then roll it in a little brown sugar.

I remember very little French, but I'll never forget those berries. Heart

@just bee,  I know berries and spinach green make brown.  Not pretty.

Well that sounds delis.  I must try that at one point.

It's the only remedy after you've discovered the big red berries you've just purchased have absolutely no flavor. Woman LOL

I am contemplating either yard saleing or donating a lot of my older, retired Quacker Factory sweaters.  Most of them just hang in the closet and I could use the room but just can't bring myself to do it!!  I really went hog wild about 15 years ago buying her clothes and I wore them but they are still gently used. I still wear a few though. I don't have a lot of room in the house.  DH used to be a lay minister (we don't attend a denominational church any more) so he has a lot of books that I would LOVE to pack up and donate.  Before we were married he picked up books at yard sales or Goodwill and I sincerely doubt if he has ever looked at most of them. I would love to go thru and just donate or pitch!!   To be fair, I have collected a lot of fabric that I am going to go through and either donate or sell.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

I don't know why books are so hard to part with.  I pulled volumes off the shelves a few months ago -- all the political books from the '90s -- but I haven't quite managed to get them into a large box and out the door.  I don't want to relive that era so why am I hanging on to those books?

@just bee, books are pretty tough.  I decluttered about 90% of mine in my last major declutter.  It felt like a weight off once done but it was hard.  I have 3 selves left on a medium sized bookcase with the majority being cookbooks.  I will donate as I work through the rest of them but the cookbooks may need to remain, I don’t really use them but always think I will.  I have gotten rid of some over the years. I haven’t bought a new cookbook in years but did recently.  It was a Harry Potter one on sale for 5 bucks.  I would of never paid full price but just thought it would be a fun look through and even one or two good recipes would justify it.  Cookbooks to me aren’t worth it anymore. You can find so much online but I use to read them like books and thought this one would be interesting or just fun.

Next on my declutter list is pretty packaging.  I can’t bring myself to throw it out but it is just clutter.  If I don’t find a use for it, it needs to go.

My cd collection, I have been toying with tossing the cases and just keeping the cds in the case I bought from qvc a long time ago.  I don’t know what to do here.  They are basically obsolete so I don’t know if the cases will make a diff when I am ready to part with them. I still listen to cds in my car.

@just bee,  hahaha, so true. It will keep me from throwing them out next time.

Since BH has been replacing the brass hardware on all our doors with brushed stainless steel, he's been spending time in my closets.  Last night he asked me why I have the cardboard box on the shelf that held the CD/radio/boombox thing I keep in the bathroom.

It's a valid question, I guess. A former boyfriend bought it for me in the '80s.  I think I should be able to part with that box now.

I just don't like rushing these things.

Re: ComPact 2018 – Just January!

Had a Shared Governance meeting yesterday for work and I introduced the "old" magazine idea.  It got support so I have a solution for my stacks of magazines.

I'd rather bring them to work than toss them in the recycling bin.

It's 25 degrees but feels like 14.

I'm going to let the dog sleep.  He can walk later.

@hellokitty, good luck with your decluttering.  Up to now, I have decluttered the semi-hard to the hard decisions, the harder decisions are up next and I have been dragging my feet.  I think I will see how this year goes and either declutter the "harder" stuff as I go or be more realistic at the end of the year. I will play it by ear.

Good luck.

Re: ComPact 2018 – Just January!

I did something last night that I haven't done in a very long time.  I went to a laundromat.

Yes, the soap and clothes were in the washer, I pressed the button and... nuthin'.

I paid a stack of medical bills yesterday and was looking forward to a quiet period and now I have a dead washer and a dying computer.

Well, at least now I know how much it costs to do a load of laundry.  Mine was $1.75; the bigger washer was $5.75.  The other big washer and the dryers are still a mystery.  I didn't see any prices posted.  I put my wet clothes in a bag and dried them at home.

Start thinking of an F-word for February.  I already thought of an F-word for January.
