Re: ComPact 2017 – Never Again November!

@aprilskies- bummer about the opened packages. I can't remember the last time I've ordered from QVC. I will order from Ulta, Vitacost, even individual websites. Once in a blue moon I will have a problem with a top not being on tight and a product will leak out in the box, but I've never had a problem getting a replacement or a credit and I've never not had everything sealed up tight and I've never had to send anything back either. I've gotten great customer service from Ulta, Vitacost, BBW. So even if everything is not perfect it's not a big deal usually to fix it.

I'm another one that used to love the BE foundation and used it for years. SO easy and just a bit of buffing was perfect to even out my complexion. I haven't been able to use it for a while either, partly because I'm older and it was accentuating every fine line I had and partly because I've developed such dark melasma since I had my second kid that I need more coverage.

I did buy a jar of the Everyday Minerals foundation this summer to try because I was still hoping to find something that I could just throw on in the hot summer that might give me at least a little coverage and not be so heavy. I used it the other day to just run out to the store and even though it took a few passes to get the coverage I wanted I was surprised that it didn't look as bad as I thought. I will definitely have to give this jar some more attention.

I was reading the other thread on here too about mineral foundation and older women and might give the Pur pressed powder foundation a try someday too. I sure would love to find one that worked, I'm not a fan of liquids at all.

@rnmom

I didn't even have to think about bareMinerals.  At first I had to buy two colors and mix them, but then they came out with my perfect shade.  Miss those days.

I forget... did you check out Mineral Fusion?  They sell a pressed powder foundation, too.

If I didn't have a job I'd shave my head again.  I'd shred all my school papers.  I'd go on a long road trip.  I'd return to the local literacy group and tutor ESL students again.

Wasn't bareMinerals the bomb?  I didn't start wearing foundation regularly until I discovered it -- and that was in my late 30s.  It was so easy, so dependable.

Sigh.

@just bee, seriously dont even get me started. Do you know how many times I entertained the thought of shaving my head and starting from scratch. Woman LOL   I would even entertain a temporary tattoo on the side of my head. I can be Sinead O'Connor, maybe I can even go a little crazy.  Why not, I feel crazy at times, might as well act the part.

Just think, we could save on shampoo.

@aprilskies

It all started in the '80s when I read an article in a women's magazine.  The writer had her hair cut to a one-inch length and it changed her life.

BH shaved mine down to peach fuzz.  I just wish this was a look that would catch on.  Both men and women should try life without hair at least once.

Feels great!

I’ll bet it does.  I have to say, you have a lot more chutzpah than I do.  And the OG would never in a million years go for it, unless I was dying of some incurable disease.  He still wants my hair long—all three strands of it.

My dad was born in 1906 and believed that women should have long hair.  As soon as my parents separated, my mother pulled out the scissors and cut her hair -- and mine -- super short.  I got the Rosemary's Baby cut.

Happily, BH prefers a short cut.  Either that or he's just sick of finding my stray long hairs on the kitchen counter.

I think I am done ordering products from qvc.  I just went to use my new moisturizer, just excited to try it, and it was opened already.  It is one of those type of caps that has the needle type thing and you puncture the opening. How disappointing.  These products are not cheap and to receive used products is just unacceptable.

I can understand that they would reintroduce clothing but products is just gross. I should check my others as well.

I had such high hopes.

Man, I hate when that happens.  This is definitely a justified case to “send it back”!

@geezerette

@aprilskies

And I was thinking of ordering that cap with the lights this morning.  Ew.  I think you should give CS a call and express your horror and disappointment.

@geezerette@just bee

oh yes, this is going back.  I really make an effort on not returning things for various reasons but this is just wrong.

JB, if I thought it would do any good, I would call them but I don’t think they care as I have read other ladies on the boards experiencing the same thing from time to time and nothing seems to have changed. I think I am for once and for all returning to the drugstore.  Not that people don’t open things there but at least you can check things out.

@aprilskies

You might want to give customer service a try before you return.  They really don’t want you to return stuff that has potential for leaking.  I received a bottle of WEN that had its cap broken and the inner seal loose.  There was cleansing conditioner all over the inside of the box.  I called and customer service said not to return, they would send out a replacement.  Which I got a few days later.

It’s worth a try and it might save you a trip to the post office.

My grandmother did the same thing.  As soon as my grandfather died, she cut her hair.  But my father waxed poetic for years about how when he was young he loved to watch his mother brush her long black hair.

@geezerette

I've known men who were obsessive about a woman's hair.  I've worked with guys who actually broke off relationships after the woman changed her hair.  Talk about material for analysis.

Even I had a boyfriend who ended a relationship over my hair.  In my senior year of high school I had my hair cut very short and permed into tight curls.  It was not a good look.  I essentially turned myself from an Afghan Hound into a poodle.

I couldn't hold it against him and we remained friends.  Then I went off to college with a 'fro.

@just bee- I didn't know about the Mineral Fusion, I'll have to check that one out too.

I wore the Everyday Minerals out yesterday just to run a few errands and it wasn't bad. It took a bit more work to apply because I had to apply several layers to get the coverage I need now. It looked slightly powdery at first, and I tried to avoid around my eyes where my crinkles are the worst. But honestly, the fine lines I have around my eyes when I smile show up no matter what makeup I'm wearing. I did find that it seemed to wear well, looked basically the same at the end of the day as it did in the morning, and usually my liquid foundation is half worn off by the end of the day, especially around my nose and mouth area. And I didn't worry as much about it rubbing off on clothes, etc. And it actually looked better later on in the day too. Hmmmm, definitely food for thought. Maybe powder foundation won't be totally out after all.

Check out their website if you haven't already.  I was considering a couple products when I thought I'd have to replace my CC cream.  They have testers in "natural" food stores here (Sprouts, Natural Grocers and probably Whole Foods, too).  Dermstore also stocks MF.
