@rnmom wrote:@just bee- I broke down last year and ordered a couple of oils from Shea Moisture because my skin was so dry I couldn't stand it. I ordered Argon and Baobob I believe. I used them a few times but I wasn't terribly impressed. For me, it seemed like the oils didn't absorb, just sat on my skin and made it feel greasy all night. But then when I woke up in the morning my skin felt dry. It was really weird. I had tried the Argon before but I thought the Baobob might be different but I didn't really notice a difference. I haven't pulled them out yet this year, I probably will later on this winter. If I still don't care for them I might just try to use them mixed in with my body lotion. So many people rave about oils I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, using too much, using the wrong cleanser so they don't absorb well, or maybe it's just me.
That's the thing about oils. When you put oil on your skin your natural oil production slows down. It's what happens when someone with oily skin who's afraid to try the oil cleansing method finally tries it and discovers her skin is suddenly more balanced.
If I put nothing on my face at night I wake up with a nice layer of natural oil on my face. Then what do I do? I wash my face and scrub it all off. Then my face is dry.
Like I said, I'll use them this winter and see how it goes. Maybe I'll realize that jojoba was a better (and less expensive) choice.

@rnmom wrote:@geezerette- I just posted that I have a couple of oils here that I'm not sure if I care for them or not, and they're good size bottles, I think 1.7 oz each. I don't have any wipes here, but do you know if I could just use the oils as an oil cleanser, like people use joboba or castor oil? I never even thught of that as an option, but it sounds like a good idea, I actually use plain old coconut oil as a cleanser half the time.
As makeup remover, maybe. Sounds like an expensive cleanser. I was really surprised when I checked out the oil cleansing method website recently. When I was using the method the most common oil combo was jojoba (not really an oil) and castor oil mixed with something else. My something else was olive oil. Olive oil is always a controversy -- some just can't use it.
Now they recommend these.
Oily Skin Cleansing Oil Recipe
30% castor oil
70% high linoleic sunflower oil
Acne Prone Skin Cleansing Oil Recipe
20% castor oil
40% high linoleic sunflower oil
40% grapeseed oil
Normal Skin Cleansing Oil Recipe
20% castor oil
80% high linoleic sunflower oil
Dry Skin Cleansing Oil Recipe
10% castor oil (use less for ultra dry skin)
30% high linoleic sunflower oil
60% avocado oil
Aging Skin Cleansing Oil Recipe
10% castor oil
10% high linoleic sunflower oil
40% evening primrose oil
40% rosehip seed oil
I'd get online and look at the ingredients of the cleansing oils out there to see what the various companies are bottling.

How do you use your coconut oil? When I was using oils to cleanse I'd massage them into my skin, then hold a hot, moist washcloth on my face. I'd let it sit on my face and then use it to remove the oil.
I guess you could give it a try. Maybe as a nighttime cleansing?

I am willing to pay for Renova. It works.
Interesting!
I still can't think of anything.

@just bee- that's exactly how I use my coconut oil. I just scoop some out of the jar with a spoon, if my hands are warm it will melt in my hands, if not it melts as I rub it onto my face, then I rub it all over, including my eyes (I just keep them closed of course), then use a hot, moist washcloth to remove it all. It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry when I'm done. I thought it was doing a really good job but I've been using my new Prai toner and discovered that there is still a small bit of color coming off on my cotton ball when I use the toner so it's not doing quite as good a job as I thought. I'm really enjoying the toner though, it smells delicious and doesn't dry out my skin. I've never really been a toner type of gal but I like this so much I might have to get some more while it's still on clearance.

@just bee- I'm really struggling with finding a decent, inexpensive, cruelty free nighttime cleanser, that's why I've just been using the coconut oil. I like the idea of a balm type product, good old Ponds cold cream cleanser was my go to for a long time, but most of the balms are SO expenive. I'm still actually looking for a decent alternative. I would only use the oils as a cleanser if I didn't want to use them as a moisturizer, so that they wouldn't go to waste

If I'm wearing makeup I use the Natural Care (aloe, Vitamin E and water basically) Huggies wipe to remove most of the makeup before I use my PC cleanser and konjac sponge.
Maybe a quick wipe before your coconut oil?

Sure. I don’t see why you couldn’t use them for a cleanser. Apparently many of the WEN models use those oils for cleansing, since it's mentioned often. People use any type of oil, like you do with coconut oil. (I remember when women would use Crisco on their faces.) Wipes are not necessary; I often just use a washcloth for removing the oil, or whatever you do with your coconut. Different oils have different properties, so try them out and see what they do and which ones you like, or not.
I have never personally just used an oil as a cleanser simply because having had oily skin all my life (until recently), I just can’t quite wrap my head around cleaning my face with oil. It’s getting pretty cold and dry here now, so I might just give it a try.

Can you use up the oils on your cuticles, elbows, knees and heels? If I decide I don't like this argan oil (still hesitant to use it on my hair) I may start looking for other places (extra dry spots) to use it.

I liked oil cleansing when I did it. Called it "yoga for the face." I gave it up because I could have spent an hour or more just massaging my face. Went into a trance. Not good when you have to get to your job.
But it really did remove a lot of crud from my pores.
