aprilskies, maybe you need to set up a fund for yourself. Every time you feel like you need to buy a new beauty item that you suspect will not work, set aside the cash for your trip to New Zealand. Or whatever it is that's been on the back burner. Now that I'm not spending money on school, it has to go towards the house (that has been so neglected). And the yard (trees need attention). And I need to donate to some of my charities. The only thing I really need is some pants. I would still like to find an alternative to jeans and try some cargo pants. I need more pockets.

You know, Just Bee, I was going to do a version of this which was to keep a running list just to see what the total would be after 6 months even, but I really need to stay out of the orbit for awhile. I think I need to find a new hobby to relieve some stress/boredom, etc.
I love my jeans but I am starting to feel the same way about them. I dont look forward to wearing them as much as I have before. Never thought I would say that. I think partly it's because they just don't make a great jean anymore. Half the time I am self conscious about squatting down or bending over for something. Even just sitting in a chair. I am not a Plummer or is that a carpenter.. I am getting tired of thinking about my every move. And I cannot go back to jeans that sit at the waist, I find them uncomfortable.

It's official: I just went online to check to see if I had a grade on my paper. I do. Got an A on the paper and an A in the class, so my 4.0 average for the BSN program is intact.
Now I can put all my papers and books away. My diningroom table will be clear again.
Congrats! Just awesome.
Like Better-half says, it won't be official until the diploma's in my hand. I keep thinking of all the things that could go wrong between now and then. But I think I would have heard something by now. Not going to the ceremony.
But my diningroom table is clear! Now I have to see how long it stays that way. Since the TV's dead, maybe I can start eating at the table like a normal person. Better-half can eat at his computer but I haven't quite mastered that. Something about the headphones, I think.

Oooh! A new hobby! A hobby is a great excuse to shop and spend money! I need a useful hobby like plumbing, tree removal, stump grinding, car repair, drywall, landscaping, appliance repair, carpet laying, tiling, carpentry, roofing...
Why did I buy a house? With a big yard, even. Do I have kids? No.
Say, maybe you could take up plumbing as your hobby and your pants will be just right. I've noticed this at work even. People's scrubs are halfway down their... yeah, those things... and everyone can see their tattoos. And more. I can't believe how many women wear those weird string things instead of real underwear. I look for pants that sit at the waist. I have no waist and I have no hips, so hip huggers tend to slide and I'm always pulling them up. When I walk the dog, the weight of his water bottle pulls my pants down. I went online and looked at jeans and they're even uglier and more impractical than they were five, ten years ago.
I'm definitely going to start looking for cargo pants. Not that cargo pants are all that attractive, but they're practical. I have this stupid smartphone that's too big and I don't carry a purse anymore, so I need a big pocket just for the phone. Jeans today have those useless pockets and unnecessary decorations. I especially dislike the jeans that are already faded and torn before you buy them. I just threw away jeans that were faded and torn.
Okay. I think you and I have a plan for 2016. Pants with pockets and a handyman apprenticeship. If I get good at bricklaying, I'm building an outdoor pizza oven!

So, the TV's dead. It's a 15 year-old big big screen. By that, I mean it's one of those giant boxes with a TV screen in it. I'm amazed it survived as long as it has. Right now I listen to TV by turning on the receiver and DVR. The TV won't turn on, so there's no picture. When I feel I need a picture, I go online. I would gladly replace the power cell or whatever it is that has contributed to its death, but for the price of the repair, I could buy a new, slimmer TV.
No one will take TVs. Even if I put it out with a note "take me," no one would. Unless they had a very large truck to haul it away. It seems wasteful to dispose of a TV that could be repaired. Don't really feel like putting an ad out there ("free to good home") because I don't want an ax murderer coming to the house. No one wants this antique. It's old technology and it's huge.
So... since it's the season for sales... anyone have a recommendation for a replacement? No, I don't want to spend five thousand dollars on a TV. I'm old enough to remember when a new Jaguar was five thousand dollars. Okay, maybe six.
Better-half could live happily without TV and cable -- he hasn't watched in years. I could go old school: We do have two portables in the house. You remember portable TV, right? They're those things that people set in front of their dead big screens.
Better-half says a VIZIO is good enough for us. He's probably right. Ironically, he bought this TV when he got a degree; now I get to buy a TV for my graduation.
OMG. They're auctioning off Dorothy's blue and white dress. But I digress. Anyone have a VIZIO? E- or M-series? I'm in no hurry, but I am still paying for cable I can't really use.
What if I didn't replace it? Better-half's mother is coming to visit this week and she hasn't had a TV in ages. I could be one of those people. Are you one of those people?

Just Bee, we bought a Vizio a few months ago from Target. I think it was a return and we got it for a lot less than the actual price (I think this is a 42 inch and it was around $250.00 or so). It works perfectly fine. If you like to stream from Netflix or Amazon or whatever sites, it is much nicer to have a tv than watching on the computer.

Thanks! We really need to go TV shopping and look at the different models. I just realized the dead one is 65 inches. That would explain why it looks so big to me.

Welcome to the board, MeadowLark. You have received some great suggestions. I recommend that you go through all of your stuff and organize it. Throw out anything that has expired. Group like items together and put the oldest stuff in the front. If you have so much, you might want to give things to friends/family or donate it. I've been ComPacting for almost three years and have made huge progress. I am still at it, but 2016 is going to be the year that I am current in just about every category (except eye shadows).

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. I am trying to push through this but just can't. I feel terrible and cannot believe that my sister is gone. Black Friday is almost here. DD and I usually have breakfast around 6:30 a.m. and then go to the mall. She is really looking forward to going and is excited about the holidays. I do not want to go. I don't feel like doing anything. I'll go because DD wants to, but sleeping sounds so much better.
I've only used two products - a big tub of cheap face cream that someone on a blog recommended. I did not like it and demoted it to my body. I also finished a bottle of jojoba oil. I might repurchase this but have other things to finish first. I am going to come up with a plan for 2016. Not sure what it will be, yet, but I know for certain that I will not buy any eye shadows. I am working on panning a few eye shadows and doing really well on one color. It will be done by early next year.
Belk is the only store that has sent me Black Friday beauty ads that look mildly interesting (Kiehls and Origins), but they are not interesting enough to get me to the mall at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Plus, I am on a strict budget.
My MIL sent two more boxes of knick knacks. When I opened the boxes, I found that only three wooden dolls were intact. Everything else was broken. Some things were so damaged that I couldn't tell what they were. The only thing that was repairable was this big white dog. It is nearly two feet tall. One of the legs broke off. When I was examining it, I found that the tail had broken off at some point and was glued back on. My MIL wants me to make a claim with the PO, but I cannot determine the value of the dog or the other things. There are similar dogs on eBay that are worth a lot, but they have signatures. This dog has a Made in Japan sticker on the bottom, so it is probably a copy. Also, the tail was already broken. If it was worth anything, the broken tail took care of that. My husband wants to glue the leg back on and display it. My MIL wants me to put the dog on one side of our television and the girl she sent us earlier on the other side. Sigh.
BTW, just bee, we have a 42" Toshiba television. It is about five years old, and we have had no problems with it. I agree that it will be cheaper to buy a new television than have yours repaired. That reminds me of when I was a kid, we had one of those heavy consoles. Whenever there was a problem with it, my mother called our repairman to fix it. His name was Mr. Krafsner (sp?). He was such a nice man. One time, I noticed he had numbers tatooed on his arm. My mother told me that he and his wife were held in concentration camps during WWII. I just cannot imagine how horrible that must have been. One more BTW, we still have a big 19" TV in our garage that is so heavy my husband can barely lift it and a 13" portable TV. Both work.
Now that we are a three car family, we have had to come up with a parking strategy so we are not having to move one car out of the way of another. It works well except when we are not in our normal routine. The other day, my husband was leaving for the airport later than usual. After taking DD to school, I parked at the end of the driveway to give him enough room to leave. When he was about to back out, I told him that he had plenty of room to swing around my car. He got in his car, put it in reverse, pressed the accelerator pedal, and hit my car! I screamed STOP, but it was too late. He pulled forward and got out of his car. I asked him why he did that, and he couldn't answer. He said that he did not see my car (which is larger than his). I asked why, and he said that he never looks behind him when backing out of the driveway!!!! My car was not damaged, but my husband's bumper now has a big crack in it. Our deductible is $1,000, so we will have to pay for this ourselves.
In addition to the bumper, Christmas, and the other sudden expenses, my husband has to have a CAT scan and MRI because his PSAs are up and down. He has already had a biopsy which came back normal, but his doctor says he is too young to be having trouble with his PSAs and wants to be cautious. I have looked at our budget and think we can handle everything without dipping into our savings (or maybe just a little) if I spread out our expenses. So I told hubs that his bumper will have to wait until January, maybe February. He wasn't happy, but his bumper still works. All of this should keep my buying to a need only basis.

Just Bee - Congratulations on the great grade! You earned it!
Dosey - Glad to see you back! Go do the Black Friday outing with your DD. Try to enjoy the time that you have with her. I'll be hitting a couple stores around the same time. I really like going around 6/7 am on Friday since all of the crazies have already stormed the stores and left hours ago! By the time that I get to Target, they have restocked everything and there are tons of cashiers waiting around bored. Same thing at Kohls. The only store I may hit on Thursday is Michaels craft store - but come on, crafters don't get rowdy do they? LOL We'll probably hit it on the drive back from my parents house.
The big thud you all may have heard was me falling off the Trying-to-be-good bandwagon. Did a shopping binge online....silver lining if there is one? I did catch myself after the purchase in time to cancel half of the stuff since I did think about it after hitting "submit". I can tell myself that some is gifts for others but a good chunk were just for me. My compact journey is 1 step forward and 3 steps back at times....
