Yeah June ComPact! Just Bee: I so can relate to your story & recommendation about trying to save (or not) personal items NOW. I have 3 sisters. Two of us are 'savers' bordering on 'hoarders'. The other 2 don't want to hold onto anything. They'd rather toss everything. If there's a fork in the sink, they can't sleep :-) With you & all of the ComPacters advice, I am working to find the happy medium. Love the post about 'if we were moving' what to keep or purge. This will be my inspiration. If I were moving, what will I need/take. Thank you again Just Bee.

This reminds me of my brother who, if he hadn't looked so much like my mother's family, we would have continued to believe was one of those "switched-at-birth" kids. Zero sentimentality. No use for the superfluous. His room when he was a kid was immaculate.

He decided that we had some "old" (therefore useless) books in our collection, so he took it upon himself to rid us of them. He pulled them off shelves and put them in the garbage shoot where they were incinerated in the basement.

These books were old. Old and extremely valuable. Antique and rare. And burned to a crisp.

I must have been a librarian in a former life, I cringed at the thought of this...

I came from a family that loved books. Going off to a university at 17 was difficult for one reason: I couldn't bring myself to write in or highlight my textbooks. They remained pristine. I finally broke down and began marking them up.

But years later when I went to school again, I wasn't able to mark up my nursing school books.

I worked in a bookstore after college (1980s) and the publishing world/retail market treats books disrespectfully. Of course now I realize that some books actually deserve it. Wink

Cleaning out a bedroom junk drawer today. These are the greeting cards DH & I gave each other over the last at least 20 years. Stuck chi that has to go. I'm putting them out with tomorrow's recycling.

I think I still have every card I've ever received.

It probably took me two hours, which doesn't seen like much, but I was like the Tazmanian Devil in there. I got rid of two boxes plus some large items to donate, and three garbage bags to toss. I didn't go through every box, because many are things from our childhood that I'm either not wanting to get rid of (dolls, blankets, toys, etc), or they are hubby's of the same nature. We have a lot of electronics items/wires/cords that I know hubby will want to keep. Sometimes you have to pick your battles. I figure if he has 10 boxes of things, I can live with it. Smiley Happy I also combined all of our extra cleaning supplies, TP, paper towels, etc (we always buy in bulk at big box stores for items we use all the time, to save $$$) into one large rubber tub. The room looks 50% better, so I can for sure live with that. We also had several boxes of books from college/grad schools that I knew we didn't want to get rid of. Overall, it was a success! Now I just need to use up my beauty products in storage there. The good thing is, I've gone through it many times, and I'm down to items I REALLY USE, so I'm not going to totally beat myself up about it. I'm just not adding to it!

We all need one of these:

WELL DONE!!!

Finally got around to getting an eye exam and committing to a new frame. My eye doctor probably thought I was casing the place because I'd pop in there, scan the shelves, and run out. Had been doing this for weeks and I just couldn't find a new frame.

I've been loyal as a Lab, but Versace frames are getting harder to find. This has been depressing because I can only wear Italian-made frames.

I ended up with another modified cat's eye, but this one is from Tiffany. Wasn't thrilled about the switch, but Tiffany frames are still Italian-made. This one's very different -- the change should be interesting.

My current Versace frame:

The new Tiffany frame:

Simple and a very pale gold. The top of the frame is actually enamel. I haven't worn any of my gold jewelry in years -- just silver. This gold frame will give me an opportunity to wear some of the stuff that's been sitting in drawers for ages.

Italian frames are the only frames that sit level -- not catawampus -- on my face. This makes a huge difference when someone is guessing my IQ.

Talk about ComPact!

This was on a Viewpoints thread...

Funny that this was on the forum today because I had a similar thought when I was driving home from work this morning. But by the time I get to that point, I'll probably be in a wheelchair and that wouldn't fit in this place! {#emotions_dlg.lol}

I worked a holiday season in a bookstore and you are so right! Imagine my horror when I saw unsold books having their covers ripped off!!!

Precisely. We'd fill multiple trash bags with brand new paperbacks and in the dumpster they'd go. Couldn't donate them -- they were landfill. Such a horrible waste.

I'm turning into Silas Stingy. Remember all those elderly people you knew who couldn't part with a dime? It's because they were old enough to remember how much things used to cost and the new prices outraged them.

But something's got to give. These increases are out of control. And I've cut out as much as I can. No frills. I'm at the point where I'm thinking of cutting my hair off just to save on shampoo and conditioner.

I haven't seen a sale price on my Lumene BB cream and the price now is almost $16 a tube at Walgreens. I've only been using it since last year and it was a heckuva lot cheaper then. I ended up buying a tube of their CC cream because I found one on sale. I don't think I'll like it as much, but I just can't bring myself to pay full price for the BB cream. (Watch -- it'll go on sale tomorrow. Just send me a thank-you note when it does.)

Are you guys getting cheap, too? What has made you just say no?
