Hello Friends,
After a nice dinner out with friends Friday night, came home, were relaxing and the dogs were outside. ( we have a fenced in patio area with a dog door leading to inside the house. They can come and go as they please) Heard them barking alarmingly, DH turns on outside light, sure enough there is a skunk on patio, must have came in under fence. My border collie husky mix Roxy got sprayed in the eyes and mouth I'm sure she was protecting my lab beagle mix Lexi who barely got sprayed.
My poor Roxy was blinded by the spray and foaming at the mouth. My husband took her inside away from skunk to let it get away. Got her on the front porch after she rubbed her poor face all over the side of the couch after banging into it as she couldnt see.
We flushed her eyes and mouth with water. Used wipes around her eyes and got her in the tub. Washed her with Dawn dish soap, peoxride and baking soda. Then a lavender WEN bath. (lavender is my least favorite WEN scent, but what a cra**y way to use it up!) She's doing great now. Looks and smells great and her eyes are fine thank goodness!
I've put vinegar in bowls around the house. I can't get the smell out of the couch its Leather so I've poured vinegar on it. Used the dawn, peoxride baking soda soultion, tried bleach, and Naures Miracle odor remover, I've also went so far as rubbing crushed fresh basil leaves on it hoping the oil would help. Its only the side arm of a huge sectional that was affected.
Don't get me wrong the health and well being of my dogs are the most important thing. And my couch is nothing next to them. It can be replaced. They cant.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get the smell out of the leather couch that I havent tried?
Oh and DH filled in the hole that the skunk dug to get in the patio.
Dogs are doing fine. This is the second time in a year these pesky skunks have gotten into the patio. They must smell the BBQ. Poor Roxy!
Any help is appreciated and thanks for listening!

Kathie, I have no tips for the skunk smell, I just wanted to say I'm glad the dogs are OK.
This weekend my better half is cleaning and reorganizing the garage. It's seems we've had a critter in there. There was poop all over the place! We saw paw prints and are thinking it was maybe a raccoon. I heard they can be nasty
, so I'm glad it's gone!

Glad your critter has moved on! Have a great week.

Kathie, I am happy that your dogs are fine and nothing worse happened. Not that being sprayed isn't bad. Yuck!
I typed "how to remove skunk odor from leather" in Yahoo's search box. A few suggested websites appeared. Here is a link to one of them on ehow.com. I would try this on a hidden spot because I would be afraid of removing the color. My sofa is leather. Although, I was told that it was drum-dyed, some color came off when I cleaned it. Not enough to be noticeable, but I saw it on the rag.
Good luck. Let us know what worked for you.

Just bee, I owned the third pair of flip flops that you posted. These.
I also owned a pair of flip flops with a wooden platform sole. The sides of the platform were carved. The straps were black velvet, I think. Can you imagine a worse pair of shoes to walk in? And I lived in a humid climate. They came in a woven straw pouch that everyone used as a clutch bag. Trying to walk on slippery wood and hold on to a clutch. Yeah. We were cool.
I found a picture.

I think I still have every card I've ever received.
I think I do, too. And every letter. They are in plastic boxes in my closet. I also have a large plastic box that contains file folders holding a sampling of my kids' school work, organized by child and by grade, from Mother's Morning Out through 5th grade. Here's the big question. Will I ever look at this stuff, again? If I through it all out, will I regret it when I am 78 yo?

It is nice to read how well everyone is doing? So much cleaning and tossing. Great job! I have managed not to create new piles or add too much. I do a little here and there, and kept what I have done under control. Now, I have a really big job. Cleaning a fabric sofa. There is a Tide Oxy commercial that recommends using their product for sofas. I wonder if it will leave residue.
Yes, I have noticed the prices on the increase. $6-8 for a flavorless watermelon that is slightly bigger than a bowling ball. $90 for a skirt. $70 for a sleeveless denim shirt. I think not. Who would have thought that we would ever find makeup for $16 in a drugstore? Incredible.
I think I have also finally hit my threshold on cosmetics, skin care, etc. I posted that I bought the sun safety kit from Sephora. What a disappointment! The St. Tropez tanner is nice. The Super Goop sunscreen is okay. (But I question the effectiveness of a sunscreen in an oil form.) Everything else is so completely average or not even that. The sunscreens for the face are thick, greasy, and white. I am using them for the pool. Fortunately, my all-time favorite sunscreen for the face is on sale through July, so I will order a few bottles and be done with it. I have been trying to find a cheaper alternative that I do not have to order but cannot. DHC White Sunscreen is fabulous. Expensive, but fabulous. I will stick with it. Rnmom, this is a physical sunscreen. It is white but goes on like water and rubs in completely. If I remember correctly, it has antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals. I love it. Not greasy at all!
I digress. I am tired of wasting money and being disappointed. Lately, I haven't had any interest in buying makeup or skin care products. My stash is slowly getting used or being tossed. I have thrown away most of the hair care products that I did not like. I saw Dimitri on this evening and wasn't tempted to order anything. My bathroom cabinets really look nice. It is a work in progress, but I really see a difference.
Hopefully, this is not a passing phase. I have been feeling down because I cannot find a good full-time job. It is clear that becoming a SAHM was a death sentence to my career. When I finally find a job, I hope the jubilation does not send me on a buying spree. I like this new frugal self!

Just bee, I love your new frames. You did what I have been wanting to do. Take your time when choosing a new frame. I cannot pick out a new frame in three minutes. Who can do this? I have always wanted to spend an hour or so looking at the selection but have never done it. That is why I hate my current frames. I wear contact lenses daily but would wear my glasses more often if I liked them.

Rnmom, DHC's website is DHCcare.com. If you want to try White Sunscreen before buying it, they might send you a sample.
