I am just discovering tea, what type do you buy?

After years of living in a community of Taiwanese immigrants, I am very found of green tea and several other Chinese teas, ginger and other comfort teas. But I would like to learn about more, especially teas that have no caffeine.

I am stunned at the amount I have spent this month on just basic necessities.

My former caregiver (c.g.) used to buy all the over the counter stuff I need each month and then I paid him at the end of the month.

I moved over Christmas eve and day into a new group home. My new c/g doesn't like the system I had with the old c.g., and she doesn't want to take me shopping either (I can't propel my own wheel chair so I am in a bind here).

I had to buy enough of all the stuff my doc wants me to take, plus personal care items, I need now that are still hostage at the old c.g.s home, so I ended up spend more than I have spent in a month for years.

Walgreen's had a number of supplements I take on buy 1 get one, so some of this stuff will last through April, and it will be all I ever need if a miracle doesn't occur to get me the pain treatment I need. Other things the old c.g. supplied and the new one doesn't like batteries. And there are still things the new one doesn't supply that I need but cannot afford.

I thought I was joining the ComPact to control mindless spending and now I have been forced into needed spending and very unhappy with it!

So far I am hanging onto the bandwagon! Other than my unexpected trip to BBW per my husband's suggestion, I haven't bought any beauty products. I have purchased some other things, clothes for the kids, etc. but nothing that I would consider unnecessary at this point. I'm already starting to feel the urge though, I've been wanting to try Skinn for a while now, since all the raves on this forum and the frequent shows on shophq. I've been resisting, working thru what I have, but I'm getting tired of what I have here. I peeked on e-bay just out of curiosity and there are a couple of his products that I would really like to try, his dark spot treatment and maybe a mask. My Nadinola isn't doing me a darn bit of good, none of my products I've tried for melasma have, so the urge to try something else that might work is always there. Plus I don't have any masks here and my skin is just too dry right now for a scrub, so the watermelon mask looks yummy. I'm trying to stay strong, for at least this month, but I know Skinn will be on the end of the month and I just might have to try it.

Happy New Year Compactors!

In 2013 i ued up 52 items that were "stash items". This does not include daily use items, (ie; deodorant). In 2014, I will not stress over my stash or beat myself up about it, I will simply enjoy it. I plan to use up more of my stash in 2014. I am already off to a good start. I used up 2 stash items last week and am on track to use up at least that many this week. Happy compacting everyone.

josey girl-great job in paring down the stash! I wish I could say that I was that successful last year.

I had thought that I was doing pretty good, a lot of items left the house last year. Some were used up, a lot of it was given away, some was tossed. But when I looked at the numbers a couple of days ago, I had almost as much coming in as went out. My numbers aren't exact, I didn't keep perfect track, but only about 20 more items went out compared to what came in. I was actually pretty disappointed.

So, this year I will try to be more conscious of how much is coming in. Like justbee keeps reminding us-Stop the flow!

I find it amazing how finishing one lipgloss makes me feel like a million bucks. That's pathetic, but it does! I finished a Mally lipgloss yesterday (recycled the tube) now I have 1/4th of a blossom tube to finish then all of my Mally products are done. I will not repurchase the lipgloss as I am trying to find drugstore products to replace my lip glosses. I really love many of my high end beauty products, but I do not believe lipstick or glosses that cost more have performed better. Now I realize that I have been wasting my money. The compact girls here are really helping me understand this.

I am feeling the challenge of the no-buy for Jan. and Feb. and I am looking at attacking this feeling and I will absolutely not give in to buying a thing. Love you guys.

Morning ladies.

I am a reader and occasional poster. I haven't had a chance to try to catch up on this month's thread until today. Reading it reminded me of something...

Please, if this is repeating something someone has already said, forgive me. One show I used to love to watch was "Clean House." I hate that the show isn't on anymore. It always gave me great organizing ideas and also decorating ideas that were out of the box (colors you might not think of putting together, unique storage ideas, etc).

One of the things that Trish stressed in keeping things neat and tidy was that if you bring in something (or purchase something) you need to get rid of something else to keep a sort of balance. I'm not saying this is a hard and fast rule, but it does make a lot of sense. And definitely goes back to making purchases out of necessity and keeping the clutter down.

I know personally I need to be more mindful in my spending, content with what I have, cut down on clutter and be more organized. I am someone who has many great ideas, but they don't always come to fruition. I did a great deal of organizing and purging while my English bulldog was sick and dying, since it kept me busy but I didn't have to concentrate either. That was a good outlet. I also did a lot of online purchasing, a NOT so good outlet.

The other day all 3 channels had specials that I wanted, one even possibly might be a sort of need, but not something I HAVE to have. As a small triumph I didn't purchase any. I may eventually purchase some of the Origami storage shelving units/bookcases, but I didn't do it then. EVEN though they kept stressing that they wouldn't have a price as good as that for the rest of this year.

I made a list of things I want and of those I sort of need, but again aren't HAVE to haves. If you have done this you know sometimes they change. Sometimes the things you really wanted that desire fades over time, or you find something that does the job better than what you originally wanted, possibly something you already have.

Wow I have just blathered on and on and not said much of anything {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Take care ladies, I believe I have taken enough of your time for the day (possibly the month! eek!)

After years of living in a community of Taiwanese immigrants, I am very found of green tea and several other Chinese teas, ginger and other comfort teas. But I would like to learn about more, especially teas that have no caffeine.

I won't be too much help here because I gravitate towards sturdy black teas. I like a tea with caffeine that sticks to my ribs. Right now I have an assortment of English and Irish teas. (That Welsh tea I just purchased seems a bit lightweight to me.)

However, I'm old enough to remember the days when grocery stores carried a very small selection of tea. It was pretty much basic black (Lipton), instant, or oolong. Today I'm amazed to see the different brands and varieties on the store shelves.

I hadn't planned to buy any new teas, but when I saw that World Market had marked all theirs 50% off, I had to stock up. I like the idea of herbal teas, but many of them are too subtle for me. Celestial Seasonings continues to be a good source for these, and I do like their Honey Vanilla Chamomile. But there are now so many different brands and interesting flavors out there...

I know a lot of people like Republic of Tea and I was tempted to try a few of their products when they were 50% off. They sell their teas in pretty canisters and I know myself well enough to realize that I might start collecting too many of their products. I stopped myself from picking up one or two to audition because their tins hold only 50 tea bags and cost $10-$12 on average. That's a habit I just don't want to entertain.

Check them out:

Another brand that seems to be popular -- and has a lot to choose from -- is Numi.

http://www.numitea.com/

I bet some of the ladies here who are huge tea fans (you know who you are) could contribute to this list.

I was thinking that I'd keep my eye on World Market and pounce on their sales. They offer their own blends of tea and I was interested in trying a few of theirs because they aren't as steep (no pun intended) as Republic of Tea.

I actually enjoy browsing teas online and reading the reviews. People take their tea very seriously. (Unfortunately, some of the reviews for World Market teas are unfavorable.)

Here it is, 4:30 AM on my day off and I'm sipping a new Irish breakfast tea. And it's not bad.
