Re: ComPact 2014 – February

No, I live in West Virginia where steep and very crooked roads, especially side and back roads, can be hazardous with ice until it warms up enough to make driving students more safe. Just yesterday, a school system ran on schedule to meet parent wishes to get students back in school after days of horrendous snow and 20 degree below wind chill. The bus encountered a car on a narrow crooked back road and slid as it tried to avoid the car. It went over the hill and 15 students were injured. The parents go their wishes; the students went to school on schedule but some didn't arrive. Best wishes on your efforts.

KonaKat, glad to hear you are back at work. We're in the second day of the second snow storm of the school year in the Pacific Northwest and are closed. You'd laugh at us though, because two inches will close us down since we typically have snow every two to three years. Stay warm.

I'm not laughing. I was in Atlanta during the "Storm of the Century" in the 1990s. Trust me, no one knew how to drive in it when it first started. They closed down the interstates when it became apparent it wasn't ending and that it was creating major problems with transportation. Our first students are picked up at 6:30am for a long drive of picking up other students on that specific bus run. Those students never see daylight at home in the winter except when school is not in session. It is dangerous to have students waiting outside in severe cold as frostbite can occur in 30 minutes at some of our temperatures we have had lately. Speaking of school, I'm off to work again in a few minutes. Have to be there at 7:30 but I'm fortunate to be close to the school.

I have some serious drama going on in my life right now so I'm making February another no-buy month. I'm thinking about a room-to-room pruning -- nothing too intense, just a superficial removal of the most glaring "unnecessities" -- before I commit to a room per month.

Just need to see how this current drama is going to work itself out before I put my energy into a new project.

I am sorry you have a problem in your life, my friend. Hopefully, it will be resolved quickly. Of course, if anyone is causing you distress and needs to be smacked, just let us know. The ComPacters will form a Smack Pack and take care of the situation. Smiley Wink No one hurts just bee!! No one.

Thanks for the support. It will be resolved. Maybe to my liking, maybe not. But it will be resolved. Just one big distraction right now. {#emotions_dlg.angry}

I read your other post (#50). This is serious, isn't it. I just hate that. Please stay strong. Make a plan if possible. Come to the board for some distraction or to talk. We are your friends and truly care about you. Smile

Aw, shucks -- again!

It's serious but not fatal. It's work drama. In a nutshell (no pun intended), I work with psychiatric patients and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between my patients and my coworkers. No wonder Charles Krauthammer left psychiatry. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Outstanding pun!!!! I love it!!

It is good to see that it is not about your health or home life. I'm actually relieved. If I had a "Phew!" emoticon, I'd insert it here.

That was my reaction too, Dosey. Not that a work problem isn't stressful and problematic.

justbee--sorry to hear you are going through anything, anywhere! Just life itself is stressful enough! And your comment reminds me of one of the reasons my husband closed his factory many years ago--he said it got to the point where he didn't know who he had to cater to more, the customers or the employees. Regardless, hang in there. And try to leave the stress at work. (I'd put in a smiley emoticon here myself, but they don't seem to want to stay where I put them anymore--darn little things!!)

Re: ComPact 2014 – February

Week One Update:

No new purchases

Used up: 1 SSC body cleanser, 2 hair conditioner samples (hotel size), 1 Dr Denese serum sample

Removed from stockpile for use: 2 bar soaps, 1 body butter, 1 hand soap, 1 toothpaste, 2 BBW jar candles

Tossed: 1 very uncomfortable bra

ORC: working on the "den/office/junkroom", donated 4 bags of paper to the Church day school recycling program. It seems that I've barely made a dent but that's ok, I'm devoting the full month to this room.

Re: ComPact 2014 – February

I'm still doing okay over here not buying a lot of unnecessary items. I might place an order today while Ulta has free shipping at $25 because I want to try a new cleansing balm and I think I'm going to try Cerave for a nighttime moisturizer. My only nighttime moisturizer seems to be irritating my face lately, so I've just been using RoseHip seed oil most of the time, which is only okay. I do have a couple of serums, but they're not moisturizing enough. I'm not sure what's going on, my skin doesn't usually get irritated with anything, the only thing I can think of is the really dry air for all these months is just finally taking it's toll.

I'm not having a lot of luck with the ORC. I've done some in my master bedroom/closet, but I seem to be more flitting around from room to room as I notice other things that need to be done. It's still early in the month though, so I'm still hoping to get thru the rest of the room and closet before the end of the month. I should be able to get it done in the next 3 weeks.

It's nice to hear how well everyone is doing, KonaKat, I'm glad to hear that you are able to get back to work.

justbee-I'm sorry to hear about your work drama, I hope it resolves soon. It's really easy to let work stress affect your home life, so hang in there!

just bee - Hope things improve with the work situation.

I've just been catching up on the thread and getting lots of insight from our fellow compacters. I haven't really been doing great with the One Room Challenge this month. We have been doing a general de-clutter around the house, so while my ORC is suffering, the over all house feel is improved.

I'm trying to imagine myself as a steam roller gradually building up momentum and then making a huge effect. I wouldn't normally want to be a steam roller, but this is my clutter we're talking about!!{#emotions_dlg.scared}

Re: ComPact 2014 – February

I am happy to post that I am completely 100% over buying any beauty items in super sizes. I used to have a really hard time with the super sizes thinking that I had to get them because you would get so much more and they were 'such a great deal'. Now I know that I like to try new things much more so I know I can't have as much versatility if buy those giant sizes. Getting rid of that monkey feeling took me about 18 months to finally get right. Anyone else know what I mean?

My one room emphasis has somewhat cooled off. I keep remembering an organizer's comment that when going through a room if one should spot something out of place or might need discarding, take care of it at that moment. It is all the little things that add up, so perhaps if we can't focus upon only one room then we can do what we can throughout the house. That in itself might make it easier later to focus upon one room.

This has been my experience Konakat. Last year I attacked anything that moved me that day. I was all over the place but now I feel I can really take one room at a time. I still have been a little all over the place up until now but will start to focus. For February, I was going to do my bedroom but changed it to paperwork. I can only do paperwork for so long before it starts to get on my nerves so it will take me a minute to get through. Although I guess I am doing my bedroom at the same time. I have another box of things to donate so I will take it to goodwill tomorrow.

I am looking forward to living this year clutter free or maybe just a little lighter. Lol But while I still have a ways to go, it feels like I am getting closer to the way I want things to be.

I know exactly what you mean about the super sizes. But I am at the point that I am tired of trying new products and just wish I could find the ones that really work for me. Then I wouldn't mind them. I guess because I feel I did more damage to my skin in trying different products than good. But that is skincare. But everything else is another story. I am amazed how long it takes to really break certain habits though. Today, it occurred to me I could easily fall back into the same habits but I just won't allow myself.
