I have some serious drama going on in my life right now so I'm making February another no-buy month. I'm thinking about a room-to-room pruning -- nothing too intense, just a superficial removal of the most glaring "unnecessities" -- before I commit to a room per month.

Just need to see how this current drama is going to work itself out before I put my energy into a new project.

I am sorry you have a problem in your life, my friend. Hopefully, it will be resolved quickly. Of course, if anyone is causing you distress and needs to be smacked, just let us know. The ComPacters will form a Smack Pack and take care of the situation. Smiley Wink No one hurts just bee!! No one.

Thanks for the support. It will be resolved. Maybe to my liking, maybe not. But it will be resolved. Just one big distraction right now. {#emotions_dlg.angry}

I read your other post (#50). This is serious, isn't it. I just hate that. Please stay strong. Make a plan if possible. Come to the board for some distraction or to talk. We are your friends and truly care about you. Smile

Aw, shucks -- again!

It's serious but not fatal. It's work drama. In a nutshell (no pun intended), I work with psychiatric patients and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between my patients and my coworkers. No wonder Charles Krauthammer left psychiatry. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Outstanding pun!!!! I love it!!

It is good to see that it is not about your health or home life. I'm actually relieved. If I had a "Phew!" emoticon, I'd insert it here.

Paws and enjoy life.

<em>"Getting started is as simple as asking yourself one question: How might your life be better if you owned fewer material possessions?"</em>

To me, fewer possessions means more options. I have a big house filled with things I don't use or even look at. I'm in prison. I can't just pick up and go. I'm limited. Burdened.

I've attached a feeling, an emotion, a memory to every item I own. Items have become appendages and losing an item is like an amputation.

But having too many appendages makes it impossible to move, so I'm stuck.

What's your answer to this question?

How would it be better? Less stress!! I could find things that I need. A cleaner space. There are so many things that I hold on to because of sentimental reasons or because someone else held on to them for sentimental reasons. If I knew how to let go of this stuff, then I wouldn't have a 40 year old Sucrets box in my attic holding a few dog hairs. One thought that motivates me somewhat is that I do not want to leave this for my kids to take care of. They don't want knick-knacks, and neither do I.

It's OK. I have the bath robe that I purchased with my mother when I was 18. There was a small, independently owned department store in the neighboring town. They sold a wide range of household products, and very good quality clothes. Every January they had a wonderful sale. Women would line up outside the store for the opening. That bathrobe was one of the first things I purchased with my own work money. It's great quality, tiny plaid, flannel. It still fits. I never wear it because I just don't wear a bathrobe. But it survived the closet purge a month ago, because it bears good memories.

LOL! I was going to tell you all about the new magazine I found while cleaning up that I hadn't read yet, only to discover it was from 2007. But, Favorite Son, I so relate to your bathrobe! I have an orange plaid dress my mother made for me when I was in Junior High 55 years ago. It's probably been 50 years since I could wear it, but it is still hanging in my closet. I just can't get rid of it, my mother made it! Woe is me.... Luckily I do NOT have all the other clothes I've had over the years, though I certainly have more than enough.

Yes, I finally got rid of the old beauty magazines and catalogs. I kept the weightlifting magazines. I'm of the opinion that it is OK to keep some things that mean something, and let go of things that don't.

I agree. I don't think this is about getting rid of everything. Some things have real meaning and and great memories. I have a little teddy bear that one aunt gave me from 40 years ago. She is no longer with us and and that thing has survived so many purges. I am not getting rid of it for now. Doesn't take up that much space. One day maybe but......

I am on Day 37 of not buying anything non-essential. I did get to work yesterday as a sub as the weather finally permitted school to be back in session. Today, we are on a two-hour delay but it appears it is a day off for me. I will see what I can get into today. I saw a neat organizer on the Morning Show designed for spices but which can be used for meds, cosmetics, etc. I put that on my wish list.

Two-hour delay? Do you live in Albuquerque? I've never had a job here that followed a 2-hour delay (had to show up as scheduled, snow or no snow), but I did manage to weasel out of a final exam once because of a 2-hour delay. Sweet! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Did not buy any cosmetics in January except for one item that I returned. Bought something today. Used up several things like bath oil, body lotIon.Preparing to move so I have been decluttering cupboards, drawers, closets. Don't go into handbags or shoes in stores anymore.

No, I live in West Virginia where steep and very crooked roads, especially side and back roads, can be hazardous with ice until it warms up enough to make driving students more safe. Just yesterday, a school system ran on schedule to meet parent wishes to get students back in school after days of horrendous snow and 20 degree below wind chill. The bus encountered a car on a narrow crooked back road and slid as it tried to avoid the car. It went over the hill and 15 students were injured. The parents go their wishes; the students went to school on schedule but some didn't arrive. Best wishes on your efforts.
