I can't watch the woman at all any more. Yapping, no information other than statistics on percentages of people that said it worked. Really? Insulting the intelligence of the viewer gains very few sales Dana/Perricone/QVC

To the contrary, the no-information presentations obviously do sell a lot of product, otherwise QVC would not continue to sell Perricone, and Dana would not be the paid company spokesperson.

The marketers for both companies track the sales data and presentations are carefully crafted to maximize sales.

There tends to be the perception that the on air presenters are acting independently, because we never see the hundreds of people behind the scenes who make this happen.

We buy on emotion. And there's a Tipping Point to the price point. Depending on the product, too high & no one will buy; too low...no one will buy. Perricone has 'science' behind him & has done an excellent job of positioning himself with the higher price point...if it was lower, sales would be affected. Other products like SSC markets itself @ a lower price point...where we can try more. Both brands have the same profit margin, but attract different customers.

Having a myriad of different products & new discoveries is se.xy, but I prefer my little brand of 3 products. Natural Advantage has had the same 3-product regime over a decade. Retinol, SPF & a good wash...that's all you need....I should say, that's all I need.

BC, Perricone has another neuropeptide product @ Sephora that contains both the peptides and DMAE. This is how they were explained:

-Neuropeptides: Activate surface renewal of the dermis, countering sagging and signs of aging.
-DMAE: Provides the ultimate firming benefits to skin; improves muscle tone, enhances contour, addresses loss of elasticity, and diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Does that help at al

What little research there is about DMAE relates to its effect as an oral supplement, and the findings are mixed. DMAE, known chemically as 2-dimethyl-amino-ethanol, has been available in Europe under the product name Deanol for over 30 years. As an oral supplement it is popularly known for improving mental alertness, much like Ginkgo biloba and coenzyme Q10. However, the research about DMAE does not show the same positive results found with the other two supplements. Because DMAE is chemically similar to choline, it is thought to stimulate production of acetylcholine, and because acetylcholine is a brain neurotransmitter, it’s easy to see how it could be associated with brain function. However, only a handful of studies have looked at DMAE for that purpose and they have not been conclusive in the least, while some have shown that DMAE may be problematic or not very effective (Sources: Mechanisms of Aging and Development, February 1988, pages 129–138; Neuropharmacology, June 1989, pages, 557–561; and European Neurology, 1991, pages 423–425). Despite the lack of evidence supporting any claim that DMAE has any effect on skin, there are hundreds of Web sites claiming that it does. It is possible that DMAE can help protect the cell membrane, and keeping cells intact can have benefit, but so far that appears to be only conjecture, not fact—and this protective benefit may in face be detrimental.

A study published in The British Journal of Dermatology (March 2007) has shown contrary evidence that it may actually pose risks for the skin. In vitro tests of the pure substance, as well as tests of moisturizers that contain DMAE, demonstrated a fairly fast and significant increase in protective elements around the skin cell. However, a short time later the researchers observed a significant decrease in cell growth and in some cases they found that it had halted cell growth altogether. Small-scale studies of topical application to human and animal skin showed an increase in dermal thickness after seven days, but that’s hardly conclusive or indicative of what may happen with long-term use. DMAE is also known to induce skin cell death and to reduce the proliferation of fibroblasts, which are cells in skin that manufacture collagen (Sources:Pharmazie, December 2009, pages 818–822; and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, November-December 2007, pages 711–718).

Interestingly, there is a formulation challenge when using DMAE in skin-care products. In order to maintain efficacy and stability, the product’s pH level needs to be at least 10. A pH of 10 is highly alkaline, which isn’t good news for skin. A high pH like this can increase bacteria content in the pore and cause dryness and irritation. Moreover, since almost all moisturizers (including serums and eye creams) are formulated with a pH that closely matches that of human skin (generally 5.5–6.5, which is on the acidic side of the scale), in all likelihood the DMAE used in skin-care products cannot have any prolonged functionality. I have always been suspicious about this product.

I have great skin for my age and I use Pond's Wet Towelettes to clean my face, and moisturize with Olay.

After seeing the demo on AM Style - it confirms my belief that massage is the key to firmer skin, not the product you use.

I massage with soapy water every morning ... my skin is in great shape.

Re: Argh, please explain the ingredients, how and why it works, Please, Dana!

I've been using Dr. Denese's products since she first came on QVC. She has degrees on aging, etc. I, personally feel like she knows what she's talking about.

I don't intend to change skin care products at my age (almost 68). I feel like what I have is what's going to be on my face for the duration. It's not like my face is going to change that much.

I just like the way Hydroshield feels after I clean my face.

If this product works for others, then by all means, use it. I went through a lot of other products before I discovered Dr. Denese, but I was younger then.

rhetoric. but check out the diabetes research, that sounds promising! I stumbled upon it looking for the skin connection
Diabetes? Oh my, I'm awake too late to take that on.
take that on?why on earth do you feel compelled to take that on? I'm simply stating that in my cursory research while there's nothing to indicate a neuropeptide would have any effect on skin topically whatsoever I did come across diabetes research that was very promising...

Other vendors do the same thing. They want to sell the product with little information and some women fall for this because they want to look younger. They never talk ingredients and actually what the ingredient does for you, that is, I have never heard anyone except Josie & her argan oil but that is a different story. I actually missed the presentation and it sounds like I did not miss much.

I've been using the natural advantage daytime aha moisturizer with sunscreen and it is actually a very good product!

Re: Argh, please explain the ingredients, how and why it works, Please, Dana!

I can't watch any of the Perricone presentations anymore. I like Dana and she seems very sweet and definitely passionate about the products, but you never get any real information!!!!! Whereas Skinn was on this morning and watching Dimitri's presentations he tells you exactly who its for and what it does and how it will benefit your skin!!!!!
