@scullychick wrote:I once read that unless you have a very symmetrical face, which most people don't, you shouldn't part your hair in the middle.
Very true. Middle parts don't look good on everyone. Symmetry is important.

I used to fight mine for years, while in school, so I could have a middle part. I used a special clip to weigh it down while drying. What a pain that was. I finally got tired of it and wore my hair short for a few years.
Then I just let it do its thing and decided I liked the bit of lift I got from letting it go! My hair has thinned a bit over the years and I am now short again so it seems to work for me. I have finally accepted it and just work with it, not against it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@4kitties I guess I don't really fight mine. I just part against it. I get more lift that way, almost like a widow's peak. If I were to go with it, my hair would do a wonky flat against my head where I wouldn't want it flat thing. Bangs would open up there. My Mom always had my hair cut in some sort of pixie with the weird bangs growing up.
I did go through a phase where I tried to clip it together where it wouldn't show. Didn't work.

I didn't realize that side parts ever went away. I like both side and center. I think I'm too old for a center part.

@Icegoddess Hair style is one thing, but parting your hair a certain way? Seems odd to me. Left? Right? Middle? I just go with what my hair wants that day. . . which can be any of the above.![]()

Parting your hair either in the center or on either side is done to soften features or enhance your features.
If you have an oval face, you can part anywhere. A middle part will make a pointy chin stand out.
Some people have a widows peak that makes middle part impossible or cowlicks that cause the hair to stand up. You should part your hair based on your face shape and issues you wish to overcome and not by current trends.

Gen Z started the "Side Part is Out" thing because Millenials wore their hair side-parted.
in HS i parted my long hair in the middle, like most of the girls and guys.
but the guys had a rough time getting their hair to look neat, trying to get their hair growing down past their chin and if they had wavy or curly hair, it stuck out. yet very few wore their hair short and tidy.

@Icegoddess In my toddler photos I have a part on the left. Now I try to flip it to the right every several months, but it looks weird.
Yes, if parted the roots show up really fast. When I used to color my hair, I could cover the roots by wearing it naturally curly, but that still only lasted about 2 weeks. Bummer.

Are side parts returning? They never went away. Part your hair the way you want.

@CatsyCline My sister graduated in 1973 and she had that middle part in her Senior portrait. I remember her sleeping in large rollers. I know some used orange juice cans to roll their hair.

@Icegoddess I think it was about 2 years ago over on
TikTok this whole thing with the center part started.
Younger people were saying that wearing a side part
was dated, and you were basically out of touch with trends.
I'm team side part all the way for myself,a center part drags my
face down
