I am ambidextrous so can use either hand to apply makeup.  This may sound strange but it depends on which hand chooses to do any part of makeup application.  Weird -  I don't even understand it but it came in handy when I couldn't use my right hand for a few months.

I use my right hand when doing my own makeup...right or left side of my face. When doing someone else's makeup, right hand, too unless I need to hold a lid taught for liner.... 

For myself, I lay down a few paper towels on my vanity, brushes get lined up on the right in order of use...about 4 for every day makeup. I have my spray cleaner there to rub the brushes on the towel to use again until wash day. 

I've also shortened looking through all the items in the drawer by putting my every day makeup in a separate divider up front. Now I only venture into the other makeup for special occasions or to go to do other's makeup.They expect to see a full face.  

I think my process is from years of practice. If my brushes are not in a "belt" brush carrier, they're lined up on the counter on a terry towel. It looks cleaner and organized for the client. Makeup items for them are arranged in clear drawers, by type, in front of the mirror so they can see what I'm choosing, prefer another product/shade or ask questions, etc.

I use my dominant hand for everything. Could not imagine trying to apply makeup with non-dominant hand.

I've been trying to think of what else I do with my left hand. Vacuum is all I can come up with.
