It is super sweet and super young and I really can't imagine anyone over 30 wearing it. It is not something I would wear personally but I am sure it is lovely on others.

On the other hand I really like alien (even though it is strong)

I don't find it in the least bit sweet. I find it erotic and a bit exotic. It's not flowery . It is unique and not in the least bit sweet imo.

win, "sweet" is the first descriptor for "Angel" on fragrantica.com. And the perfume is grouped into Oriental Vanillas, which are by definition sweet to one degree or another. This is not a bad thing, any more than "woody" or "floral" or "gourmand" are bad things in a scent. It's how the the different notes are blended; and it's a matter of what appeals to a person. Here are all the descriptors in order for Angel:

main accords

sweet

patchouli

cacao

warm spicy

caramel

fruity

Thanks Suzy. I find nothing sweet about it at all though. Hope all is well.

Hope the same for you and yours, win.

I love the Angel perfume, have been using it for a couple of years now. I don't like it right after I spray it on, I have to wait about five minutes until the scent changes and becomes very soft. I do not like all the other items you mentioned, like the powder and creme, just doesn't smell the same to me. I found this fragrance years ago when I was looking for a new scent. I would go into Sephora and spray something on my wrist and walk around the mall, just seeing if the scent would work for me. This one was the only one that didn't make me feel like washing it off. People stop me all the time and ask me what perfume I am wearing. Test it and see how it works for you.

A psycho ex best friend of mine wore this stuff 24/7 - so it's probably my least favorite scent! The notes do look great though.

It's funny how we associate certain scents with people or times in our lives, isn't it?

As for notes, I've learned that they're only as good as the final blend. You could have ten notes that all are individually appealing, but it doesn't necessarily translate into an appealing result.

And the notes wear differently on everyone, too - I recall the bergamot scent more than any other of the top notes!

I've tested it but didn't go for it. I checked out the notes on fragrantica.com, and man, they are all over the place. I don't think I've seen such a huge pyramid -- everything but the kitchen sink.

It is grouped as an Oriental Vanilla. And they can be wonderful, or they can be overpowering. If you want to try something more current than Angel in that same group, I recommend Prada Candy, which seems to get more respect for its blend, even from people who fancy themselves as connoisseurs who would never touch a note that was remotely reminiscent of anything sweet.

I wrote the following review for Prada Candy:

I picked up one of those fragrance samplers at Sephora that include a redeemable coupon for a free bottle of one of the fragrances included in the box. I picked a sampler of ten that had the most scents (three, to be exact) that appealed to me after smelling them on a paper strip in the store. I could not have been more mistaken as to what would be my final choice.

I forced my husband to be my helper and sniff each one on my skin. His usual response was either "meh" or "okay." Then I put on Prada Candy. Before I even asked him for his opinion, I was in love. I didn't say anything but just asked him once again to sniff. It's the one and only time I've seen him actually react with enthusiasm. He loved it.

I think this perfume is misnamed and might scare away people who might assume that it is a super sweet, juvenile scent. Candy is most definitely not one of those scents. It is a warm, alluring, very sophisticated perfume that just wraps around you and makes you feel good. It is NOT overpowering or overly sweet at all. From beginning spritz to dry-down, this scent remains light and lovely and lingers for a very long time.

Believe me, I have rarely strayed from my florals (pure floral, woody floral, fruity floral, you name it). If someone had told me that I would swoon over a musk/vanilla, caramel blend, I would have laughed in their face. But swoon I did. Prada Candy stands out as a unique scent in a world of fragrances that are often indistinguishable from one another.

Great review, SQ3! And you're right -- I never would have considered it because of the name. And I never would have read a review, either, for the same reason!

It sounds absolutely yummy -- I must give it a try. Thanks!!

I agree with the other ladies replying on this one. I think one either really loves it or hates it. However, for me, I've smelled it on other women and I really like it. But for me, no.

I loved it on others, too. As a matter of fact I chased a nurse down the hall at my doctor's office and said "you MUST tell me what fragrance you're wearing!". It turned out she was wearing Angel -- and so was I! It never smelled that good on me TO me, but I got a lot of compliments. I always hoped it smelled to them (people who liked it) like it smelled to me on others.

No, Innocence isn't the same scent, but similar when I first spray it on, then the similarity ends. Drying down to a powder scent, which I don't like at all.
