I just did a little a little Googling. I suspect the latest version is different note-wise from the original. I was told, way back when it came out, that it was chocolate, honey and vanilla, and smelled different depending in your chemistry. Some sites now list a raft of fruity notes and other notes, and some are closer to the original formula.

It reminds me of how Chloe is not really like the original now. Bottle and carton look the same, but Coty got their hands on it. {#emotions_dlg.huh}

I should have added in my response to winamac that depending upon the quality of the blend, "sweet" can definitely be "exotic" and "sexy." Both this one and Pravda's Candy are Oriental scents, which generally are thought to encompass both those adjectives to some degree.

Back in the day I remember wearing Opium, a spicy Oriental and a masterpiece of its time. I doubt that I could wear it today, but I thought it was the definition of sexy and erotic.

Of course, then I moved on to Giorgio. OMG. Those were the days. {#emotions_dlg.scared}

Pravda? Haven't heard of that in years! Wonder if it's still in existence (not curious enough to go look, though).

Okay, I know you mean Prada. I never particularly cared for Opium, but wore it because it was cool. I do like heavier scents -- had a fling with Aromatics for a while, then discovered my all time fave, Fendi Theorema. Everybody else absolutely hated it, but I wore it anyway -- it transported me. Still looking for a new one since Theorema is so hard to come by. And it could be my taste/sense has changed since then.

I loathed Giorgio from the first whiff on -- and EVERYBODY was wearing it, including you!!

Suzy, Opium was my favorite back in the day. I bet it would knock me over today, plus one time I was in a closed in area with two women at work, and one said I smell men's aftershave. Yikes!!

Your friends were obviously more sophisticated than mine if they complimented you on Theorema :-). Just found a bottle on Amazon for $250. I don't think they make it any more, so it's probably really old AND expensive!

I should check out more Fendi fragrances -- there's only one current one available at Nordstrom. Wonder if they manufacture for a limited time, then move on to the next. Or maybe whoever owns Fendi now is concentrating in other areas.

Anyway, it makes me feel good that you loved it, too! At least TWO of us can fondly remember it.!

Is Opium still on the market ? It seemed like a heady fragrance that was popular in the 80s. I believe it contained exotic musk and sandalwood. The problem is today a lot of the essential oils have been declared unsafe. That is what happened with Tova. The perfumers today don't have access to the same essential oils they did in the 70s and 80s.

I have worn "Angel" since it first came out. Years ago, I was shopping at Famous Barr and would always check out the new perfumes. The lady sprayed this on me and I was in love. It is my husband's favorite.

But I do agree, you either love it or don't. It makes my sister-in-law sick.

It is better to use very little. As with a lot of perfumes.

I agree that Angel seems to be a fragrance best worn lightly. I could still smell it on me when I woke up, and I slept late. As I said earlier, I bought a small amount of Angel a few years ago. I just happened upon it last night and tried it. I think that I ordered this from Sephora. Mine is the size of a rollerball, but is the EDP in spray form. I think that the body creme would be wonderful if it smells like what I have. I may have to try it out next week.

Hahahaha...Pravda. What a strange goof. Utterly Soviet-like of me, eh?

I'm sure that if I got a whiff of Giorgio today, I would keel over.

As for Opium, someone asked whether it's still in production. No, but there have been variations thereof over the years, or so I gather from fragrantica.com.
