"Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps, means a little bit more." The Grinch Shouldn't we have thought of that!

I've known that since I was young and learned it at an early age.

Yes, we know. Nothing new.

Maybe I'm overstepping since I don't celebrate this holiday, but I think it's become so commercial. I studied old and new testament in college and now what the "true meaning" is of the holiday.
I think younger children wouldn't understand the 'truth", but certainly as they get into an appropriate age, the over requesting and purchasing of toys, decor and Santa should be lessened (not eliminated) and the true story of the meaning of the holiday should be discussed.

Love that story! Love that What Christmas brings is the coming together of the congregaiton. Heart to heart and hand in hand. It's not about the things, it's about the togetherness "Who"ever you are.

@proudlyfromNJ Sorta sad that Church is just about the only place a child hears about it these days. Or maybe your point was that it should stay there? What ever happened to the Good News?

@proudlyfromNJ Yes, I have, too attending mass w/ my SIL and DIL and many friends when asked.
I think this may be the year to take it up with kids. Since supplies and choices of toys and games are limited, the focus can be placed elsewhere.

@candys mine I knew I shouldn't have posted. To me the opening post sounded like if you don't discuss this with your kids they won't know anything about it. I am Protestant and we have Sunday School classes for the children where they learn. Also Church for the adults have a sermon by the minister and we sing hymns. Of course parents can have discussions with their children.
