man am i.

this morning i went out to go to work and the windshield wipers fell off of my car.  it was snowing and i had to be to work  shortly.  so i drove slowly and carefully to work.  when i got to work, i took the wipers and put them back on my car and they are now working.  yeah!  i was woried that on a sunday, iwould have to drive home and wait until tomorrow to get them replaced, but i did it myself.

and i have also replaced   the washers in the bathroom sink, the faucet in the kitchen and even installed a new thermostate im my house.

i am very pleased with this because i hate having anyone do work for me as they overcharge and then i end up having to have it redone

now if i could just figure out all this new high tech stuff!

@shortbreadlover  Me too!  I would rather do it myself then have pay someone to do it for me.  I replaced a headlight lamp on my old "aka vintage" car, and was told it was not centered and facing upward.....oh well, at least I tried, but a friend of mine at work helped me get it straight.

I've done those things mentioned in your post as well.  I'm very proud of myself and even replaced a few ceiling fans in my house!

......You look like I need a drink.....

@shortbreadlover Good for you.  I'm a real do it yourselfer.  I've always been that way.

I come from a family of mostly females and most are do it yourself people.

You wouldn't believe the things I've done.  My friend and I took my toilet entirely apart ..... not once, not twice but three times!  Took out all of the pieces of the tank.

I've fixed my hot water heater (drained, etc).  I totally painted and stained all of the wood in my house when it was being built.  I wall papered my house and the house of the guy who owned the one we were renting while building our own house.

I won't bore you with all of the stuff I've done over the years (won't move to the car stuff).

I was lucky enough to be married to a man who believed women could do pretty much anything a man could do.  He was a total Alpha Male but always took the time to teach me.  He was a builder, so he knew a lot.

He also worked on his own cars, so I (and my daughters) learned a lot about cars.  That was way back.  These days cars are computers so it's a different story.

Now that I'm 72 there are things I physically can't do, but mostly I try if I can.

Being a widow and living in a big house all my own, I thank my husband every day for teaching me mostly to 'not be afraid to try'.

That's what it is all about.....don't be afraid to try.  Most computer things are difficult (I think) to break.  Just try, that's my advice.

I love, love it when I read a post like @shortbreadlover because (like me) she isn't afraid to try.

So many females don't realize they can do things, they just don't try.

You feel so good about yourself when you realize you can do anything......if you try...at least.

good for you!

i havea good neighbor that i can call and ask for advice when i need to do so.  he is more then willing to help me learn but he won't do it for me unless i can't do it  hesays that is the best way to learn how to do things.

ialso go to a hardware store by me andask tons ofquestions.  the workwers there help me and give good advice.  they are all experienced in the areas they work.

i forgot to added that i installed a sump pump  myself.  ibought it, the hoses and all the thingsi needed.  the plumber that wasgoing to do the job wouldn't do it unless i replaced all pipes in the house at acost ofover $10,000.00. i kicked him out so fast.

Good for you! It’s anazing what we can do when we really try. I have fixed my washer, microwave, and oven when the display screens went wonky....all by looking on the internet! Just had to know the code to enter....I hate to think what someone would have charged if I had called in a repairman. You can find out how to repair almost anything online.
