Nothing.

Many times, stores allow shoplifters to leave the store, employees are told not to engage.

If the store has a strong security presence, only security is allowed to handle.

You assume she was shoplifting.  I have a handbag that sets off alarms.

It's very wrong, but it's not my circus and not  my monkey.

Try it in my house and I'll have a surprise waiting.

I used to have a Motorola phone that would set off alarms when I walked IN the store.  Everyone standing nearby as I entered always looked confused.  LOL   Woman LOL

No! I've been robbed at gun point, not fun. Maybe get a license plate or car description, but stay low.

I've also followed a shoplifter through the store as an employee. I let the lady know she was found out, but I stayed far enough away that she just decided to walk out.

Engaging someone isn't the job of a minor employee or a customer. Security has ways of watching without getting close. There's reasons for that. Yes, a gun could be used, but knives are popular as well. I'm no hero for a small piece of merchandise. Whatever it is they are taking out on a bag or under their coat isn't worth the harm they can do to you.

Unless it's a child being taken, stay safe.

I agree.

That's interesting!

Do you think it was the battery, or the actual phone.

Wrapping my brain around this one.

Yeah .. kinda strange .... it's rather startling to set off alarms.

The grocery store I used had a cashier that had been at that store forever, and once she told me that the only cell phones that ever set off their alarm were Motorolas.

I have absolutely no idea what that could mean ...  if you figure it out, please let me know, lol.   Woman LOL
