I recommend this book to my forum friends who, like me, are dealing with the challenges and the joys of growing older. I'm posting a screen shot, not a link, so I hope it will be deemed appropriate by the moderators. I've chosen to post here, rather than the Book Club forum, because I think it's an important book and want as many of you to see it as possible. If you've already read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

Thank you so much for posting this!
So many, many times in the past few years I have thought the following:
1) wow, I wish I had known about this or that
2) wow, I should post that I learned this or that (ie: managing hair that is turning gray)
3) wish there was a book that had prepared me for getting older
Maybe it is just me (and you) but I like to know in advance.

I'm glad you saw the post. I was talking to my youngest son last weekend. He drives a very old truck. He said the radio is stuck on NPR, so it's the only thing he listens to, lol. He had heard this author talking about her book and thought it sounded like the same issues I'm grappling with. He was right. I'm only halfway through the book, but it feels like the author is speaking directly to me.

@house_cat Isn't it wonderful when every now & then you feel that genuine connection? You sound like a positive person & thank you for sharing!

@house_cat....I have not read the book, (maybe I need to) and maybe it's just me as I KNOW that I am not a deep thinker...never have been....if something comes up, I deal with it and move on....I don't look to far past today...and I TRY not to dwell on the past.
I am also aging, I will be 64 this year and when other women post on this topic or specifically the title of the book you posted, it makes me wonder am I just a superficial person and do not 'care' about what tomorrow brings? This is a honest question and would love any feedback, thanks!

Of course it's possible that the book is not for you - it's just a recommendation. However, it's not a clinical book. I'm finding it comforting to know that the things I've been feeling are shared by other women my age.

@house_cat Thank you for the recommendation. I hope you don’t mind me adding a brief description of the book.
About Women Rowing North
A New York Times Bestseller
From the New York Times bestselling author of Reviving Ophelia, a guide to wisdom, authenticity, and bliss for women as they age.
Women growing older contend with ageism, misogyny, and loss. Yet as Mary Pipher shows, most older women are deeply happy and filled with gratitude for the gifts of life. Their struggles help them grow into the authentic, empathetic, and wise people they have always wanted to be.
In Women Rowing North, Pipher offers a timely examination of the cultural and developmental issues women face as they age. Drawing on her own experience as daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, caregiver, clinical psychologist, and cultural anthropologist, she explores ways women can cultivate resilient responses to the challenges they face. "If we can keep our wits about us, think clearly, and manage our emotions skillfully," Pipher writes, "we will experience a joyous time of our lives. If we have planned carefully and packed properly, if we have good maps and guides, the journey can be transcendent."

@house_cat. I hope my comment was not taken as a criticisim, not my intention at all - it was more of an observation about my self than anything else. Maybe my head is in the sand!
