I decorate Thanksgiving weekend,

11-02-2023 02:52 PM
Some people put up lights in October here because it is warmer but wait to turn the lights on them after Thanksgiving. This week has been below normal and cold with snow in tbe upper Midwest. We have a single man in the neighborhood who always has his lighted decorations out in early October. I have only noticed them turned on on the week of Christmas.
My dentist has a row of evergreen trees already all lit with white lights in the back of her building on the edge of the property. It was very pretty.
I leave out a few new items out that I recently bought as did not want to store them for a month first. I bought Valerie's snowpeople lighted figurine roasting marshmallows and put it out when after it came. I also did the same with the Led candle of hers and turned the Santa around so only the trees seen in front. I slowly bring things out and don't decorate all at once. It sort of is a mix for awhile with Winter and Fall decorations. The real Christmassy things are last out after Thanksgiving.

Halloween came down yesterday. Some Christmas things came out as I was putting away Halloween decorations.
It is another gray and rainy day outside of Seattle .... and I can't wait to put up some lights, glitter and candles to chase away the gloom.
I have such wonderful memories of Christmas and the winter months. Cutting trees, making and drinking cider, sledding.
Decorating for the holidays bring those memories back.
Since I move SOOOO much slower these days, it takes me so long that I need to start early. (At least that's what I tell my husband.).

There was a time in my life when I decorated A LOT. I'm talking monthly change outs on our fireplace mantle. Boy, did 30 days go by fast! I'm so over it. I sold, gifted, and pitched most of everything. DH didn't care except for when it comes to Christmas. I can switch out dishes and table linens, put up a wreath, and call it done, but he still likes having a tree and other things around. We (he) will do it sometime over Thanksgiving weekend. Everything returns to normal New Year's weekend.

My Christmas decorations consist of the garden flag, hang holiday towels in the kitchen and baths, and opening our family bible to the book of Luke.
If my girls are in the mood, they decorate outside or add more inside. We haven't done a tree for 5+ years. I don't want to move furniture to accommodate one, and cannot tolerate living in a house that SCREAMS Christmas everywhere you look.
Also, my husband and both girls have asthma and COPD. I do not like having the decorations that are stored in the basement undisturbed for years at a time, carried upstairs and set out on every open surface. It always results in 3 people with a COPD flare, which is easily avoided if all decor stays downstairs packed away!
