I have moved several times in different states and always preferred an empty home.  I think staged homes are a sham.  While I don't want to see clutter, if the home that is for sale is occupied, clean is best.  A staged home doesn't show a true living situation.

I know realtors like it staged, but they are hired by the seller, therefore an employee of a sort. so they should do the best for the seller and not push a stager on them.

Empty.... I've always questioned a too perfect, staged home.

Me, too, @LIG1... Feels so contrived and as though they are attempting to camouflage flaws, and create a sense of spaciousness. The very word “staged” reeks of fakery.

Give me clean, well maintained and empty. I can take it from there with my own vision for decor.

@Jackhound Mom, I'd rather see a home empty and of course, clean!  That way I can visualize what my furniture would look like in the house!

It's MUCH more difficult to sell a home empty. And you won't make as much money selling a home empty.

I don't think so, unless you are selling the furniture too!

I would for my husbands sake like to see furniture in it.  We bought an empty house years ago and I kept telling my husband the living room was too small.  He said it was just fine.  Well when the furniture was delivered and he was sitting practically on top of the tv he started complaining.   I can judge size okay but he cannot.  We stayed there less than two years.

Makes no difference to me as long as the home is clean.  Also depends on the price. As a matter of fact if a home is staged I would ask what are they trying to hide?  All these shows like on HGTV raise unattainable expectations and focus on stupid stuff.  I still have a very good imagination so it does not matter to me.  I think it's more important that everything is in good working order and the construction is solid.  Everything else can be fixed/changed. I am house hunting right now and I want to see the attic (insulation), Utilities (heat and air), signs of termite damage, in short all the important stuff that costs a lot to replace or fix.  I couldn't care less if the house is staged, lived in or empty.  So many homes now are built so cheap. It's a card board box with trims to make it look expensive.  The most important stuff like energy efficiency fall by the wayside and end up costing you the most.
