Walgreens pharmacy

What a fiasco, I had an appointment for my second shingles shot this morning. Get to the pharmacy only to be told the computer crashed and they couldn't do them. He told me other Walgreens are doing walking in's and I could go to another one. I drove a couple of miles to another one where the pharmacist told me he would be with me in a second. He helped another customer but totally ignored me. Then he walked away and after waiting 10 minutes he never reappeared I just gave up. Third pharmacy I made another appointment only to be told they didn't have time regardless of having an appointment and couldn't see me until after lunch and I was welcome to wait. ( it was now 11:00 and he expects me to wait until 2? Yea right). Third pharmacy another appointment. I get to the pharmacy and the pharmacist tells me she hurt her hand and can't give shots. I think the gods must have been telling me that today was not the day I should get my shingles shot. I have another appointment tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. Fortunately I was able to get some shopping in between driving around to 4 different Walgreens.

Okay, I give up .... don't you have a DOCTOR that you see regularly? It would have to be an extreme emergency before I would ever get a shot for anything at a drug store. From what you've described, they aren't particularly professional.

Additionally, if by some freak occurance you have a serious reaction, they'd have to call an ambulance, which would take time, transfer you to an Emergency Room, which would take time, and then get someone to take a look at you, which would take even more time.

You could be dead by then.

IMO, If you are old enough to qualify for a shingles shot, you should be seeing your PCP on a regular basis. Have all shots in an environment where if something goes wrong you could be attended to ... immediately.

@Tinkrbl44 Doctors don't give Shingrix shots. You can only get them at a Pharmacy.

@Tinkrbl44- Some drugstores are able to dispense vaccine injections such as flu and shingles.

The OP was venting or least it sounded like it to me, about getting the runaround. I would have been annoyed as well.

@Tinkrb44 Obviously you don't know that doc's haven't given shingles vaccines in ages. They can ony be gotten at a pharmacy.

I can't stand W's. I've gone to the pharmac at my Safeway for more years than I can count with ZERO problems.

Well, I had my shingles shots at my MD's office, so I don't know when this was supposed to have changed. You obviously have never had anyone in your family have a serious reaction to a vaccine of some sort.

I would never get a shot at a drug store, if I were able to do so at my PCP's office. Just for the safety factor, if nothing else.

I've got a shot two months ago at my doctor's office.

Depending on each individual's healthcare insurance there can be a difference in whether the cost is fully covered at a doctor's office or through a pharmacy.

We go to CVS.

Your first Walgreen's had a real issue.

I would definitely report #2 and #3 to corporate.
