Re: WINTER STORMS COMING HERE

We are getting the jackpot here in eastern Massachusetts, 18" to 24" . We get light fluffy stuff though because of the very cold temps. Got groceries yesterday so bring it on. I'm old so I've lived through plenty of snow including the blizzard of '78. Hubby was stuck at work for three days. Take care everyone.

Re: WINTER STORMS COMING HERE

Hi.  It's 7am Friday morning in the upper Midwest.

It's -11 degrees and -34 wind chill. Winds are supposed to get worse bringing colder wind chill temps. Our high today might reach zero.

We're expecting only 1-2"  snow tomorrow with super cold temps and high winds.

We are north of the huge swath of the country that is supposed to get so much snow and ice this weekend.

Be safe.

Re: WINTER STORMS COMING HERE

We're supposed to get sleet/freezing rain Saturday into Sunday here in my part of South Carolina. I'd rather have snow (though that comes with it's own problems--people here seem to lose their minds over snow, too!).

We got groceries yesterday--store was completely out of bottled water (individual bottles) so had to get a couple of gallon jugs.

IF this all actually happens here, I think Monday/Tuesday may see the biggest issues with driving. There will be icy roads, because the temps will be high enough to melt the ice during the day, but down in the teens/twenties at night which will re-freeze any water left on the roads.

I'm so glad DH & I are retired. The first two places I worked expected us to get there no matter what--the plants ran 24/7/365. But even those of us who worked in the offices, and weren't essential to the plant running, were expected to be there!

DH had his own business, and had enough sense to close down, but he still had to drive me to work, because he wasn't about to let me drive myself in those conditions.

Re: WINTER STORMS COMING HERE

@vermint That's insane! I just told the young bank teller who was stressing about it to pack her things and leave because I'm sure she doesn't drive a zamboni which is the only thing that drives on the ice we are supposed to get.

Looks like it won't start until after the banks are closed tomorrow so she might miss it as a worry.

One thing about the younger generation is that they seem to be stopping all of that kind of employer nonsense of be here or else. This GenXer has fallen in line. I told her to take her coworkers and walk, if it gets in early. It's not worth the risk and they can't rehire that quickly.

We are in the same area.

I just got back from Sam's Club. I had planned on going today since last week It fit best into my schedule. OH MY!

There were two men working the carts in the parking lot. And they were really working AND still there were no carts at one of the entrances. And navigating the store was rough. Every motorized scooter was being used. Combined with all the carts it was not smooth sailing down some aisles.

Thankfully, the store was recently remodeled. And more self check outs were added. So at least when you finally went to check out it took no time.

And of course the ONE thing I wanted to make sure we got - I FORGOT! Well, I am not going through that again.

PS - I had to laugh. Reminded me of "Covid Days" when I saw numerous carts with the huge packages of toilet paper. People seemed to be planning ahead.

@drizzellla I went to Costco yesterday and when I parked I decided to get a cart from the parking lot.  Good thing I did since there weren't any by the entrance!

Crowded, yes (I got my toilet paper & tissues!) but not as bad as I think it will be on Saturday.

I dread this storm.  I need to do a few small errands today and will pick up some cash to pay my teen neighbors if they shovel out my driveway.  They always do but it's always only a few inches.  Last I heard we're supposed to get about 14"!!

@haddon9 Yes, I fear this storm is to be feared. The Weather Service has updated the amount of snow. UGH!

Went to Costco today. I knew it was trouble when the parking lot was filled at 9:30. And the line for gas was at least 5 cars deep.

So went to Tanner's and Solly's. There were lines at all 6 registers at Tanner's (they opened the ice cream register). AND they sold out of low fat milk. Got a Peach pie at Solly's so we are set to hunker down.

People are getting ready. I know I said it before but I am done. If we don't have it now, we will have to do without for 4 or so days.

@drizzellla I am well stocked...I certainly won't starve!  It's a good time to want to snuggle around a fire, watch TV and eat things that I shouldn't eat.

I am trying to be good right now since I indulged too much over the holidays and have avoided buying any cakes, pies or cookies!  I had pie over Christmas and Thanksgiving from Solly's they have the best blueberry pie!

On my way home from Costco I go past Tanners and the parking lot which is always busy was really packed!

Re: WINTER STORMS COMING HERE

@drizzellla My husband made a quick run to Sam's yesterday before the freezing rain started to get a rotisserie chicken. He said that the line for the rotisserie chickens was all the way to the front of the store. Plus, there were two chickens left when he got to the front of the line and the woman in back of him cut in front of him. He said he politely asked her to step back where she was. And she did. He said people were filling their carts with the rotisseries.
I think they were in a panic because in 2022 there was a terrible ice storm that left

many thousands of people without water for a week. Luckily, I was out of state at the time.

I forgot the year but it was before 2022 - and we had quite an ice storm. We had no power for about 4-5 days. My husband was able to buy dry ice from a local ice cream company. We were able to keep everything in the refrigerator and freezer cold. And our addition gas heaters kept the house warm enough and the pipes from freezing.

But still scary.

I really feel so bad for the Sam's and all the other Company's employees that tried their best to stock shelves and keep product moving. When we were at Sam's Thursday. An employee was trying to bring skids of fresh produce and fruit out. NO ONE was letting him by, their carts were blocking him and he was getting no where. I think Sam's had every available employee working. They even had employees making the fresh orange juice. (It makes the entire fruit department smell like oranges. It smells so good. AND they hand out samples. Tastes so good.)

Glad your husband finally got a chicken. And you got to enjoy it. Their rotisserie chickens are so good.
