I am thinking about relocating to Vero Beach, FL and am wondering if anyone lives there or is familiar with the area.  I was there many, many years ago but I'm sure it's changed.  I am looking to rent instead of buying.  I don't want to live in a building but want to rent a house or condo.  I did see some places on-lilne.  One was called Village Green and the other was called Vero Palm Estates.  I believe they are manufactured homes.  What are the positives and negatives to living in that area?  I currently reside in Ohio but am originally from New York and am 72 years of age.

If anyone has any suggestions or information, I would deeply appreciate your inpur.  Thank you in advance.            docsgirl

Funny, I was born and raised in Ohio and moved to Ft Pierce/Vero Beach area and lived there for 35 years.  Moved away 3 years ago and can't wait to move back.

It's a lovely area.  Those areas are manufactured homes with high HOA fees but vey well kept.

May I ask what made you look there?

We have in the past vacationed in Vero Beach and are planning a trip in March.  I really am not familiar with housing in the area, but it certainly is a lovely place with great restaurants. I especially like it because I think the weather is less humid than other parts of Florida.   I think it would be a great place to take up residency.  Good Luck!

Years ago we spent a winter in Vero Beach. We both liked it. A nice area. Have friends that live in Village Green. They like it. There is much to do. Fees are high. Another friend lived in a condo. Good luck. Hope you find what you want.

I realize manufactured home communities have very high fees because you lease the land and they raise the lease every year.  I would never get into that.  I love the Savanna Club in Port St. Lucie but their leases are through the roof.  When the leases get to a certain point, people can't afford them nor can they sell them at a decent price because no one else wants to pay such a high lease fee.  I do not plan to buy; I just want to rent.  I wonder if I would be responsible for the lease payment.  In reading the description of the properties, there is no mention of fees.  It just gives the rent of $1,200 a month.  If there are fees, it's a no go.  I'll give them a call when I get home from work this afternoon. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks to you and all who responded.  docsgirl

You ask why I'm focusing on Vero:  my son, who lives in Chicago, wants to move closer to the Miami area but I don't want to be so far south.  I like Vero, Port St. Lucie, and Stuart but they are very built up and more expensive than Vero, from what I've seen.  I'm sure there are plenty of other areas but I know I need to go down and look.  My son and I are born and raised New Yorkers but my late husband was from Ohio and when he got sick, I moved him back here to be close to his sisters.  After he passed, I somehow wound of staying.  The cost of living here is very, very affordable. Have a wonderful day.

My parents had a condo in Vero Beach called Vista Royale. This was their vacation spot, not a full time dwelling. We'd visit there and thought it was a very nice area. I can't say I'd like to live there though, but then again, I'm not the type to live in a one season climate. Too humid, too many bugs in Fla.
