I remember when these services first started. Everyone loved the fact that the rule was "no tipping."  That didn't last long.

I always tip and no, it does not only have to be via the app.  I give cash tips often.

@willowbark

Many do not have vehicles in cities and use the bus. Whether it’s Uber/Lyft or a bus it does require some extra thought when traveling.

You mentioned he lives in a city. Some communities (not all, of course) have small buses and vans for seniors and disabled to get to medical appointments. It’s worth checking if he hasn’t already. Often it’s free.

There is not a bus line in his area.  Also, medical transport vans are more expensive than what he pays for Uber.

To gtive you a better idea of how many times he's used Uber since getting deathly ill, it's over 1,500 times.  @bikerbabe

@willowbark Would you please share what city this is?

@shoesnbags I'd rather not.  It's out in the middle of nowhere but within walking distance to a couple stores.  I could never live there but understand why he chose to, very low cost of living.

I do know what @willowbark is talking about because I was just reading about this the other day on Reddit. Some drivers were saying they won't pick up anyone with less than a 4.7 or 4.8 rating. Then they discussed a slew of "infractions" that would warrant their giving you a poor rating: not being at the right spot, not being there immediately, slamming the door, eating or drinking,  talking on the phone, talking to the driver, having packages, on and on and on.  It was crazy. Also the rating does not take into account whether or not you are a good tipper because they don't see the tip until after the rating is submitted.

The discussion I saw was mainly Uber drivers. Lyft had some differences in certain areas.
