If you use Uber or Lyft , do you tip and, if so, what per cent? Do you tip at the same rate as a commercial taxi?

If it's a long distance I tip more. The driver needs to drive back to town or wherever.

Yes. Have only taken Uber once and Lyft a few times...gave 20%. 15% would be fine also, imo.

Not sure what is expected, or generally given....though I think when I searched Google it had said generally 10-20%.

Yes and No, I no longer take Uber but when I did the tip would depend on the conditions of the vehicle and the quality of the ride. I reports a few drivers for horrible conditions in their vehicles

 I have never used ride share and hope I never have to.  GPS is used and we all know or should know that GPS is not 100% accurate.  I am familiar with my own city without needing GPS.

From what I have heard from new customers that use either uber or lyft, as soon as you open the app it shows your GPS but if you do not know the actual address of where you are located because let's say you are at a restaurant or anyplace that is not your residence and the GPS is inaccurate you will get dinged for that.  When you get dinged the 5 star rating that everyone starts out with will lose a point or two When  you have too much of a low rating, it will discourage other drivers from answering your need for a ride.  A relative who was new to the service generously tipped each time but because they were not feeling well and senior citizens they got poor ratings even though they gave generously.

Always followed the rules never slamming the door and always keeping the interior tidy...all infractions if you don't obey the rules.

I was told that due to getting poor ratings after following all the rules  yet were giving generous tips, they stopped tipping altogether after seeing that they got poor ratings

I've never heard of or experienced any of the above, but it may depend on where one lives.  Also, not clear on why an uber driver using GPS is an issue.

 My 80 year old relative uses uber and lyft consistently in NYC and has never had a bad experience.  She depends on them for appointments.

However, my question to you would be what other option would an elderly or any person have if they don't drive and can't take public transportation for a variety of reasons?

@Tori3569 very difficult obviously.

My elderly relative continues to use Uber as they can no longer drive but it is not pleasant. There is a whole page that lists all the infractions if you don't obey the rules.

Also, for short trips to the doctor's office my relative said they order the Uber 1 hour prior and for longer trips 90 minutes.  This is due to the fact that GPS is used and not always accurate and complete resistance to use an alternate route. Many drivers are not from around here and so of course don't know their way around.

I was told that you will get an infraction for talking and that  includes using your cell phone.
