I’ve used Lyft a lot going to the airport and a few miscellaneous times when getting car service done or on a trip. I’ve never experienced any of the issues you’ve mentioned nor a long list of infractions to worry about. As for talking, most of my drivers have been chatty and welcomed conversation. I always tipped generously since that is how they make most of their money. Longer drives (airport) I tipped very well

As for location, I always adjusted the map showing my location as needed and occasionally sent a text to the driver. Never an issue.

I have a question, please. When you say tip, do you mean the amount of tip that add to your online payment? Or do you, in addition to the tip you add to your payment, do you also hand a cash tip to the driver? I don't drive and since my DH passed who, bless him, took me anywhere I needed to go. Ihardly go anywhere these days. I hate to be a burden to the very few people I have in my life, loathe to ask like a child, " can you please take me?". I have a fear of Uber or Lyft, mainly because I've never done it before.

Some people can no longer drive, so ride share is necessity for them. 
It's also handy when traveling to a new city.

I use Uber when vacationing and do not have a car. I have always tipped 20% in the US. The tips in Europe are smaller, so to give 20% I need to supplement with cash.

My elderly relative continues to use Uber as they can no longer drive but it is not pleasant. There is a whole page that lists all the infractions if you don't obey the rules.

Also, for short trips to the doctor's office my relative said they order the Uber 1 hour prior and for longer trips 90 minutes.  This is due to the fact that GPS is used and not always accurate and complete resistance to use an alternate route. Many drivers are not from around here and so of course don't know their way around. 

I was told that you will get an infraction for talking and that  includes using your cell phone.

@willowbark I use Uber occasionally, like recently when I had to take my car into the repair shop for servicing.  Also when my eyes had to be dilated. I have to say that I have never, ever heard of anything like what your relative is reporting.  I always talk to the driver and as far as any "rules", I don't have a clue what they might be.  Everyone's been pleasant, and my rating is excellent.  I would hate for other posters reading this thread to think that using Uber is like what your relative says, and maybe be afraid to try it for themselves.  Can I ask where he or she lives?

Using Uber or Lyft once or twice a year or even once or twice a month is not the same as someone who uses it because that is their only mode of transportation. 

If I lived in the same city I would gladly be my relative's transportation. 

The doctors saved his life and he will never leave. 

His level of care that he has received is outstanding. 

The number of doctor appointments are huge and include many specialists with separate appointments to see them, for follow up appointments that he will have for the rest of his life. 

Each and every appointment for the past 5 years has been by Uber.
