Our frontdoor is not accessible from the bottom of the driveway unless we allow it.

@Group 5 minus 1 Yes, you have to pay if UPS has to reroute the package. Unfortunately, although frustrating, it really isn't UPS's fault that you will not be home at the time of delivery.

An option I use is the My Choice Premium. It does cost $19.99 per year but you can easily change the delivery date, which I have to do quite often. It's unlimited.

@cjm61 I have this and tend to use it often.  It is well worth the $20 to make changes to the delivery.

@Group 5 minus 1

My house is well off the road.  I have a gate at the road that I close when I'm gone.  If I have a UPS delivery when the gate is closed and they can't get to my house, they leave a post-it note on the gate that they will retry delivery the next day.

Long ago when I was still working, I got my first box at the UPS Store.

You get a 'street address' and they will accept mail, UPS, FedEx and USPS boxes.  They will sign.  A wonderful solution.

Where I am confused is if we call ahead and tell them not to deliver and reschedule then why should we be charged.?

UPS is providing a service for you. If your request means additional work for them it is perfectly reasonable for UPS to ask you to cover that cost.

UPS standard delivery does not operate on a specific date requested by customer.

Delivery companies are providing a convenience bringing orders to our home. It's expensive to hire drivers and purchase and maintain vehicles.

Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else(paying to change delivery date).

@Group 5 minus 1  I was told I'd have to pay to change it once but they explained that the company that was sending it could do it for free. It took a few calls but that is what happened. No way I was going to pay extra.

I would not have said anything to UPS. They usually deliver it the following day.

Wouldn't they have delivered it to the door? That where they would leave the note.

I've ordered wine from QVC and never had to sign. It was left on the porch and I was very surprised.
