Re: Typing, what about writing?

Personally I am annoyed to receive printed cards and notes from friends my age, who I know learned to write in cursive more than 60 years ago.

Is it possible due to arthritis or nerve issues , or shaking hands that their penmanship isn't legible? Both my mom, dad and brother have difficulty writing clearly. As POA I sign their names on checks and on credit card receipts when necessary. Some days are better than others!

@embgm

No, there's no health issue/disability involved.  2 of them have management level positions and print because the younger generation of vendor reps they deal with daily cannot read cursive writing!

Re: Typing, what about writing?

I do the same thing at work @RedTop especially when I address envelopes. Print.

Even the banks are going by the numeric figure now instead of the written language which I found really interesting since, back in the day, what you wrote out trumped the numeric value all day long.

I've actually had mail returned with the correct address but in cursive writing which is absolutely readable but not to the new generation of postal employees I guess.

I still do cursive in personal communication though. Interesting...

For the posters who are complaining about other posters who are lamenting the lack of cursive writing and how it's not necessary anymore. Well that is not true.

I just picked up a new Car this week from the dealership. I did not even finance through the dealership, so basically it was considered a cash sale, and I had to print and SIGN my name several times.

So yes, cursive is still needed.

You can print your name on both lines, and they'll still sell you the car!

@icezeus this comes up periodically on these boards. I am a paralegal and work in criminal law. Your signature does not have to be in cursive. Your signature is your signature, whatever form you want it to be. I used to sign "2 letters" and that was my signature.

Ever seen the handwriting of kids now days? It isn't used much but when it is, it's a total disaster. Some can't even manage a decent signature.

And this affects you...how?

I'm sure you'd really look down your nose at me...I'm older and my hands are so shaky it would be hard to read my handwriting, so I type.
