Tomorrow I will be 70 years old. The biblical expression three score and ten keeps coming to mind. No birthday ever bothered me...not 40, not 50, not 60 or 65. For some reason 70 is hitting me hard. It seems old. I feel OK. I go to dance class four times a week and strength building classes too. It's just this number in my head. It's foolish of me but still bugs me.

first of all, happy birthday! 🎉
and second, how about you focus instead on how healthy, active, and that you have a sound mind and body at this stage of your life. all those positives will hopefully trump that number 70. 😊

There is only 1 other option I am aware of besides chronologically getting older. Other types of age are more important starting with Physiological and Psychological age.
I never concern myself with anything in my life over which I have control, my preference is doing more productive thinking and actions. I am 77 and the number 7 means no more to me than me being closer to 80.
Optimism is and always be my best friend when it comes to life and every issue that comes my way.
ETA- HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Happy Birthday! 70 is not old at all....I'd say it's more "middle age." At 55, I'm a young adult, of course. LOL
You inspire me with your dancing 4 times a week! Happiness to you!

I think it may be that word "elderly" which I hate. At 70 you have to own up to it.

Vivian,
I will be turning 70 this June, and I am feeling the exact same way as you are. My husband was saying that when you hit 70, it's hard to deny to yourself that you are just REALLY getting up there....it's a real milestone.
I have recently lost two dear friends born in 1947, the same year as me. One died very suddenly about a year and a half ago, and another died this past summer after fighting leukemia for 2 years. Both were healthy until then.
It's made me very sad, and makes me look at my time here as just very special now. I'm grateful for the time I've been given, and I try to look at it that way.
I do think it's normal to have the feelings you and I are having...maybe not everyone does as they get older, but I think most people do at one stage or another.
Try not to think about the negative aspects of aging (though that's often hard) and view your birthday as a very special celebration. I'm going to try to do that when my birthday comes, hopefully.

I've had all the mixed feelings, good and bad, that people have mentioned in respect to getting older. It's all a process, isn't it? Vivian Florimond, you have a vital spirit that transcends age.
From one January person to another, happy birthday, and here's to a fun, healthy 2017!

Look at Joan Rivers, she was 81 and still a firecracker and probably still would be had it not been for the tragedy!
Then there is Betsey Johnson.....she is in her 70s and is fierce!

My husband will be 76yrs old tomorrow. He is long retired and as busy as he ever was. He has his health along with a few problems. We will go to dinner to celebrate. He is quite amazing as I am sure you are. Enjoy the health and life you have been given. I am 74 and have health problems and am still enjoying my life.
