  A week or so ago I post about my daughter having severe post partum depression and asked for prayers. I am so thankful for the prayers and so happy to report she is much better now. The doctor put her on a medication called Zurzuvae which is apparently fairly new. The doctor had to verify the absolute need for the medication because for a 14 day, 1 pill a day the cost is astronomical !!!.  The copay was $350 !!   It was worth it to see my daughter smile again, no longer having suicidal  thoughts and able to care for herself and her family.  She hasn't completed the 14 day script yet but it's working.   Thank you all again for your prayers !

@Goodie2shoes   so happy it worked.  Heard it is the first medication for post partim depression. To me when a new mom suffers like that, it is so worth it when it works. They used to give it only by infusiums ....and it was a 60 HOUR infusiun!   if you can believe that.  I am glad the pills are a 14 day regimen.  Great for your daughter.  No one deserves to feel like that, especially with a new child.

Thank you and glad you know about the medication. She says it makes her a  little drowsy but she's still able to stay alert.  60 hr infusion? wow ! The costs for the medication I believe is very nearly around $16,000 for a 2 week dosage, her husband works for the hospital so they have great insurance.  My granddaughter is doing great and she's up to 9 lbs now.  And she's smiling !! Woman Very Happy

That's wonderful your daughter has access to this break through medication! From my research the culprit is precipitous drop in progesertone after giving birth. I had very bad PPD when my son was born. He's 47 and back then there was no mention of medication. Though antidepressants were available i had no idea , no one ever suggested them. My mother just said "snap out of it"! We had no clue that its a hormo
nal and biological response. I too could not eat.food tasted like cardboard. It seemed like a black cloud hung over my head. I was sent to a therapist. A psychiatric nurse who chain- smoked . She did help me though and encouraged me to take small steps to feel better. I had no family nearby, my ex wasn't much help. I did finally feel better after a few months.

@Goodie2shoes

So very grateful that your daugher is doing so well and so quickly!  Zurzuvae sounds like a miracle drug for sure.  Her documented success will lead the way to help many  mothers and their new borns in the future.

Also, so very grateful your granddaughter is thriving and happy.  Sure hope she is able to snuggle up with her mom real soon, if not already.

As it should be, all is well and headed towards a normal mom and daughter relationship.  There will be spirited "discussions" at some point!  🙂

Re: The medication is working !

That is absolutely wonderful news!  I'm so glad for your daughter, you, and her family.

I've never suffered with ppd and can't even imagine the devastating effect it has on a person and their loved ones.  It's hard enough taking care of a new baby, but to add that to the mix is unthinkable.

It's a disgrace that the drug should be so expensive.  Shame on the drug companies.
