@Mom2Dogs New subdivision, new house. Everyone here has a tankless. It's installed in the garage and it's a two story house. It works well but for some reason, especially in the showers, you turn the tap one and right away you get hot water but after about 2 minutes it turns cold for about a minute and then hot again until you are finished.
So what I do, I turn the tap on and let it run for about 2 minutes and all is well but in the mean time the water is wasted. That's one of the things that's on the list for the contractors. Always liked a tankless, never runs out of hot water
In the mean time, we flipped a house and installed a tankless and it works perfectly.

We had one ( it came with out previous home when we bought it). Where we lived, the water has a very high iron and mineral content. The " on-demand" ( tankless) hot water was awful. We had maybe 5 minutes of hot water in the shower. But much of the problem was due to the minerals blocking up the pipes- We eventually got a tank and problems solved. I would not recommend it but maybe other people have better experience- But I wouldn't risk it!

We looked into them and we were told you need to have a water softener so that would have been another expense. We live in Arizona and the water is very hard.

My husband insisted on one when we built this house a few years ago.
It's great because we never run out of hot water and have up to 9 people taking turns taking showers. I can have a tub filled and two different showers going to get things moving with grandkids here!
But, turning on the kitchen faucet, it takes forever for the water to get hot. I usually fill up a very large, very heavy pitcher (decorative) to *keep* that water to do plants on the deck.
Water is expensive here and I HATE wasting it, so it's my only issue. I guess because of how far the kitchen sink is from the water tank? Because showers and tub and bathroom sinks get hot water immediately.

We also looked into getting a tankless water heater. The rep told us it would take many years of use to justify the cost. We passed.

Two of our adult kids have tankless water heaters. One was put in a new home they built and the other one replaced a standard water heater that had worn out. Both said they love all the hot water...but both also say their water bills are more since they use more water, and the electric bill is higher...they are more expensive to use. We have a 2 year old Rheem standard water heater that is natural gas....the best!
Savung the water in a pitcher to use to water plants is a great way to not waste any water!

@Mom2Dogs I have one. My Hubby installed it about 8 years ago. I love it. It didn't really cost anymore because he installed it. I never had any issues and I love it.
