Another possiblle cause is an extension which you have added to your browser. That might be interfering with surfing on a browser from one site to the next. Try and disable your extensions:

 

Settings>Extensions>Manage Extensions

My DILove was here for Thanksgiving and dove into the challenge.  

 

She looked at quite a lot and told me to use Cntrl-Shift +N.

Only going in that way gets rud if the pop up.
