I purchased a Brother sewing machine and I'm very pleased with it. I didn't want anything with a ton of options. I just wanted to do some basic serwing and mending. I think I purchased mine at HSN on a craft day as a TSV. 

I've seen them at JoAnn Fabric and they usually have coupons. I also have seen them for sale at a sewing machine repair business. My DIL found one there for a great price.

@Gorgf Oh my, my mom had an Elna, and I also inherited it!  Remember the 'cam's that came with the machine for different stitches?  I evenutally had to replace it, I purchased  a Viking...

You may want to buy a used machine from a sewing center.

Always been a Singer girl since I learned on my moms when I was 8 or 9. I'm 64 now.
